M***i Pays Courtesy Visit to Central Bank Deputy Governor

His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the M***i of Uganda, led a UMSC delegation to meet Mr. Michael Atingi-Ego, Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda, on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at the bank’s headquarters in Kampala.

The delegation included Prof. Dr. Muhammadi Lubega Kisambira (National Chairperson), Hon. Hadji Abbas Muluubya Ssekyanzi (Secretary General), and Sheikh Ismail Wandeeba (Private Secretary to the M***i). Mr. Atingi-Ego warmly welcomed the visit, describing it as a special pastoral call.

The meeting included discussions on the Islamic Banking Sharia Council, social transformation programs, capacity building, community awareness, potential collaborations, the UMSC's ten-year strategic plan, and preparations for the UMSC 50+ anniversary celebrations. Both parties agreed to continue engagements in the near future.

Renowned Kampala-based businessman, Mukesh Shukla has been remanded to Luzira prison on charges of obtaining money by false pretence.

He faces the charges of conspiracy to defraud, contrary to section 309 of the Penal Code Act CAP 120.

Mukesh, who is the chief executive director of Shumuk Aluminum Industries, was arrested from his Nakawa office on Wednesday and brought before the Nakawa court presided over by Chief Magistrate Elias Kakooza to face charges of obtaining money by false pretence and conspiracy to defraud.

According to the charge sheet, between November 2020 and November 2021 at around Banda Industrial Area and Nakawa Industrial Area, with intent to defraud, Mukesh obtained USD 27,950 (about 105 million) and over Shs116 million from Alvi Auto Village Ltd allegedly leasing/renting two plots of land, whereas not.

Talking to journalists, Mr Shahid (complainant) said he tried to engage his brother and the Pakistan community to compel Mukesh to return his money but in vain, thus involving the police.

The Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has revealed that the Lubowa Specialized Hospital construction works were awarded to a new contractor.

This was after the Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi attempted to raise a demand for the Government to update the country on the development status of the hospital project in which close to Shs600billion out of One trillion shillings needed has been injected.

He also wanted an explanation on why the contractor has persistently blocked Committees of Parliament from accessing and finding out the development status of the hospital as per their mandate of oversight role.

In response, Speaker Among said that the current contractor whom she was hesitant to reveal is still studying the site after which Members of Parliament will be invited to visit.

She has also promised Parliament that the Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, having been allowed to visit the site; will update the House on the status of the Lubowa Specialized hospital construction works.

Finasi-Ishu Construction SPV Limited, the contractor in-charge of constructing Lubowa International Specialized Hospital had finally allowed the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to conduct an oversight tour of the hospital site on any day after April 22.

In February, this year, LOP Ssenyonyi together with other members of the shadow cabinet were denied access to the site as armed guards at the site asked them to get permission from Enrica Pinette, who they referred to as “madam”.

Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba Receives Congratulatory Message from UK Chief of Defense Staff

The British High Commissioner to Uganda, HE Kate Airey, and the UK Defence Attaché to Uganda this afternoon visited the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba to extend their congratulations on his appointment as the CDF of the UPDF.

According to the CDF’s office, during the meeting, the two officials also presented a congratulatory letter from the British Chief of the Defence Staff, Admiral Sir Tony Radakin KCB, ADC.

The message further noted that the Ugandan General who trained from UK’s Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst reaffirmed to them his desire to enhance the traditional warm relations between the UPDF and the British Armed Forces

JUST IN: Fred Enanga, the Uganda Police Force spokesperson, has officially announced the decision to sell their fixed-wing aircraft (PI80 Piaggio Avanti II Evo).

This decision comes after the aircraft failed to provide effective services due to the lack of tarmacked runways in many parts of Uganda. The aircraft, which was acquired in June 2019 for USD 7.840.000, has been underutilized, covering only a total flying distance of 117 km.
