Spotlight on... ✨️

🎭 Jack Forrest 🎭

Jack has worked in pantomime for 10 years both on stage most notably as a Dame and Comic and off stage as a writer and Director. Jack has worked in children's theatre since graduating in 2017, running various youth theatre groups and performing in interactive performance for under 5s.

Jack's Pantomime work has secured him several awards including Best Male Comedy performance, Best Comedy Double Act, Most Accomplished Portrayal of a 'Good Character' and Best Dame. Jack's written and directorial work has won multiple awards for Best Original Script as well as Best Pantomime.

🌹 Forrest Rose Productions 🌹

Joining forces in 2023, Jack Forrest and Mark Rosenthal bring over 35 years of combined theatre experience to Greater Manchester based Pantomime production company, Forrest Rose Productions. Forrest Rose are dedicated to bringing high quality, affordable and sustainable pantomime to Greater Manchester, showcasing local talent and business to the wider community.

🎶 Spotlight on... 🎶

Graham Lappin & Climb Way Up

Following a successful twenty year career as an actor and singer with credits including Elf the Musical, Legally Blonde, Jesus Christ Superstar & The Wind in the Willows, Graham began writing in 2015 and his first musical The Rise premiered in Manchester in 2020 - this original and unashamedly northern story set in a family run bakery in 1894 features book music and lyrics by Graham and was well received. His second show Climb Way Up played to sold out audiences at Hope Mill theatre in 2022 and the original cast recording has just been released across all digital media.

Climb Way Up is an exploration of human fragility and the struggle to survive, introducing four strangers who meet on a roof, all of them united by their intention to jump off, following a pivotal moment in their lives which has caused them question their ability to go on. As they share their stories with each other and the audience, they begin to question the paths their lives have taken to this point, discovering that the community and potential hope created by their shared experiences might be enough to help them move on and find a new way to live.

We cannot thank Graham enough for chatting with us on the show today and how stunning was 'Oh Me Of Little Faith'?! 🌟

Spotlight on...

🚂 Starlight Express 🚂

In todays edition of The Magic of Musical, Starlight Express took Centre Stage as it has been recently confirmed that a revival of this show will be coming to London’s West End in the not-too-distant future!

Lloyd Webber himself said, “The world’s first truly immersive musical will this time be an experience like no other. Watch out for the big plot twist and you will discover why steam power is the future of the railway!”

🎶 Thursday Throwback 🎶

Back on July 12th, I had the pleasure of being one of three NMFM 106.6fm presenters to represent the station on the Festival Square Stage as part of the Manchester International Festival! 😀

I was joined by two WICKED singer-songwriters, The Dove and The Dragon 🕊🐉 and Ben Gorb ⚡️

We got to hear some reimagined musical theatre classics along with some of the artists' own songs/covers!

When asked what their favourite musicals were, it was a joyous coincidence that they both said West Side Story! ❤️

Introducing our host...

🎶 Rebecca Phythian 🎶

Rebecca is an actor, singer and poet from Blackley, North Manchester.

She began performing at the age of 14 and quickly realised this was her calling! Since then, she has trained in Musical Theatre at and Acting at 🎭

It was at LIPA she received the Andrew Lloyd Webber Scholarship, founded her theatre company and was selected to perform at the 2017 Wannamaker Festival! 😍

Since graduating, Rebecca has performed in theatre productions up and down the country and is a huge advocate for creating your own work... so a published collection of her poetry and tour of self-penned play, Pill, felt like completely organic additions to her abundantly creative life!

Rebecca can't wait to pour her passion for Musical Theatre into this radio show and will strive to put the spotlight on Manchester's thriving arts community! 🌟
