Not only is it oversaturated, but it’s actually a banned hashtag—meaning your posts using it could be hidden without you even realizing it!

💔 What does that mean?
Instagram has flagged due to spam and inappropriate content, so using it can limit your reach or even make your posts invisible in searches.

💡 What to do instead?
✔️ Use niche, relevant hashtags for your audience eg or
✔️ Focus on strong captions & storytelling—the algorithm prioritizes engagement over hashtags anyway!
✔️ Post to Stories & Reels where hashtags matter less, but visibility is high.

Avoid the hashtag graveyard and make your content actually work for you this week! ❤️

Now this is a post for millennials and millennials only - if that’s not you keep scrolling 😅

We learnt about socials on the job didn’t we? Early adopters of MySpace, Piczo experts and Bebo Huns, we were accidentally coding queens and developers of a social space that was shiny brand spanking new! We curated this online lifestyle for ourselves and some of the bits that have stuck around till today still need some improvements IMO. (I’m looking at you hospital check in gang)

I love that my seven year old is learning how to screenshot and airdrop as part of the curriculum but I do think SO much more needs to be regularly taught about online safety not only in terms of stranger danger but your forever digital footprint too!

If you’re looking for some support with your pre teen or secondary school age baby (always our babies aren’t they) in terms of their social media/device usage, I run sessions for families, groups or 1-1 to ensure that everyone is up to speed and happy with their boundaries online!

I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought of all these excuses at least ten times... a day 💁‍♀️but the fact remains that video adds an invaluable layer to your social media strategy and therefore customer journey.

The advice I give to anyone who's had enough of resisting showing up is:

📸 Get started. Start filming yourself without posting it, deliver your elevator pitch, film some b roll of yourself at your desk or on a fake call with a client. Get used to your face, the filler things you do (if my mum sees me touch my hair one more time she's gonna kill me) and almost numb yourself to zooming in and picking on everything that isnt ✨perfect✨

📸 When you do post, remember that only 10% of your followers will see it. Now generally, that's a sad sad little stat but it definitely helps to calm my nerves when I imagine the real size of the audience that's going to see me out of breath on a school run or delivering a talk from a bad angle (hiya chin).

📸 Thirdly, most importantly - NO ONE CARES. Consider your scroll on Instagram or any platform really, do you watch or engage with every single piece of content in front of your eyeballs? Do you think ooh she doesn't know what she's talking about or omg he stuttered over that word there. No you don't, your future super fans will inhale your work, enjoy everything you put out and accept you as you! The ones who don't, don't matter!

I want to start this off by stating I’m very much aware that a social media platform being closed down will be the least of many Americans worries this week, especially those who have lost so much more in the wildfires, goes without saying.

But the (hopefully temporary) shutdown of what I consider to be the community centre of the internet has shown us how little those in power understand about bloody social media, a member of the court actually questioned why those who have built their careers on TikTok couldn’t just move their audiences over to another platform. Cheers hun, never thought of THAT.

I’ve seen so many people chortle at creators, ‘they’ll have to get a real job’ bla blaaa ‘have a break from looking at themselves and getting free clothes’ - and that kind of attitude bores me. Tell us you have one of those phone cases with your cards in and avoid going into city centres without telling me. There’s still a massive demographic that just can’t hack people creating their own employment without getting calluses on their hands or shhhock horror - having to go to an office.

My other main concern is that this is one of my biggest fears around social media itself. People have built their houses on that app, they’ve graffffted for the community they’ve built and p**f- it’s gone! Please please, take this as your sign to start backing up your audiences in places you own - your email list, your website, start using your captions for blogs! Just don’t put all of your lovely, creative, entrepreneurial eggs in one basket. I’m saying this to myself too because my email list is currently gathering dust.

I understand the concerns about the current ownership of TikTok, I understand the ways in which excessive consumption of socials can be detrimental to mental health, I understand there needs to be more restrictions around underage use of the app and others like it - but I feel like, let’s also consider Temu and Shein in the same veign then? Please follow USA Creators you enjoy interacting with on other platforms, sign up to their mailing lists and let’s hope this is just a little bump in the road for the industry.

I’ve worked with brands who are hell bent on discussing minute and specific details of their products way too much on socials and wondering why the posts aren’t engaged with.

If we use a car as an example, when most people in the market for a new one are scrolling on Instagram or Facebook they don’t care about the wheel brace and the windscreen wipers, they want to envision themselves on a road trip, music up loud and snacks in tow.

That’s the vibe you have to bring to your grid, stopping a scroll with content that fits into your audiences mindset, not with your sales strategy.
