Here's some information about a radio interview I did earlier today.

WITCHES HOUR - TUESDAY 4th FEBRUARY 2025:

Geoff Higginbottom and Martin Gittins are our guests today when we explore the alternative to expensive vanity publishing or chasing the big publishing houses - self-publishing. Geoff is the author of the Tomos the Dreamer books, and Martin is his publisher. Indeed, he is one of my publishers too.

Everyone's story needs telling. The stories of ordinary folk like us are often told in song, on radio, through drama or as a sharing of our story when we die and loved ones wish to celebrate us. So, as well as how to have your grimoire or book of shadows published - listen to learn some simple tips on getting your biography, novel, poetry or short stories out there; how to quickly start making money to recoup your layout through book signings and social media. You can reinvest profits into your next book or, as I do, use them to help good causes.

Music sung by Martin, one song written by Geoff another about "Old Pendle"; and from Rag and Bone Man, T-Rex and Steeleye Span.

Martin's Bedford Falls Publications website can be found here: www.bfpublications.co.uk

Here is the link to listen to the show for up to three weeks after it has gone out live:

I'm considering buying a program called Gigapixel, that allows you to clean up images and enlarge small images without loss of quality. Does anyone have experience of it?

Well, I've threatened for long enough and now I've gone and done it!

'GRASS SKIRTS AND GURKHAS - Scenes from a Manchester Childhood' will soon be hitting the shelves.

This book is the distillation of stories from my childhood between about 1956 and 1966 growing up in Crumpsall, North Manchester.

There are tales of daring, tales of curiosity and tales of stupidity. There are sad stories, funny stories, weird stories and daft stories, all told by me, as if I was sitting across the table from you having a pint.

To order your copy (for delivery in about three weeks) pop over to www.bfpublications.co.uk and click on the image on the home page.

If you heard the expression 'Any road up' would you recognise it? is it an expression you've heard recently or one from the past, as far as you're concerned?

I spent a lovely hour in the company of Sufiya Rehman at Allfm 96.6 radio station in the old Levenshulme Library this morning. I was talking about, and reading extracts from, my forthcoming book 'Grass Skirts and Gurkhas - Memories of a Manchester Childhood' due to be published in the next month or so. I also mentioned that I'm currently recording tracks for a double CD charting my 50+ years of playing in and running folk clubs and music sessions. which will follow a little while after the book.
I'm running a subscription scheme for the book with benefits for subscribers, like they did in the eighteen hundreds, long before Crowd Funding was even a thing. You can find full details of how to subscribe and gain the benefits further down this page.
The radio show will be broadcast next Monday between 4pm and 5pm. If you miss it, let me know and I'll send you a recording of it.

Here you will find all the latest news about our publications from the moment they are announced to the day they arrived from the printers and you can get your eager hands on your very own copy.
