Devastated to hear that our friend Andy Martin of The Star and Garter has passed away. A champion amongst humans, Andy was kind, generous and hilarious. A rare and irreplaceable gem, loved deeply by many, including us. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and the S&G community. Manchester won’t be the same.

Northern Voices is our development group for exciting writing talent based in the north of England and run from our Salford office. In 2020 the group is made up of seventeen writers (including one writing pair) who are looking to expand their writing skills and break into writing for broadcast.

Regular Joe is so happy. He's going to be featured in 'Female Filmmakers: BBC Introducing Arts' this Thursday. He's only watching films made by women this year, so an hour-long anthology (including two eps of 'Smile Love It Might Never Happen') a few days ahead of is really making his mic crackle. Thurs 5th, 11pm on BBC Four.

The IT department finally got round to updating the website. New pages for The Space Arts AMAZING MEN (with videos), British Textile Biennial MATERIAL (with images) and Slung Low LADY MEMBERS (with iphone photos because the proper camera broke and we didn't realise until a month after 👍).

As part of British Textile Biennial, we spent four weeks in 2019 working in residence at Accrington's iconic Market Hall, running a clothes stall that traded in conversation, not cash. We spent March holed up in a tiny shop on Tib Street with these excellent women and the teams they headed up to make Smile Love It Might Never Happen. Spent Saturday night eating cheesecake, drinking house red and cheering for Russell T Davis with them in the more glamorous surrounds of the Royal Television Society NW awards. A Best Comedy Programme nomination, second year on the trot. Proud as absolute punch, we are.

Only took 2 wonky photos at this weekend’s , but to be fair to us we were doing a lot of reeling from the close-up magic, the close-up vogueing and from missing our category because we nipped to the loo together (an astonishingly on-brand blunder, even for us). Mostly though, were just rapt at some of the inspiring projects and tireless people we heard about. Nice one, Manchester. ❤️🐝

WE STARTED A BAND! Our first gig was in Accrington Market, who's going to give us our second? Our sound can be described as loud and enthusiastic, featuring Léonie Kate Higgins on cello, Lowri Evans on bass and Sara 'The Little Drummer Boy' Cocker on the snare.

On Saturday evening, we’re performing a new show, for one night only in Accrington Market Hall as part of the British Textile Biennial. ‘Material’ is the culmination of our residency at the market and being in there after hours the last few nights feels like being in school after hours practising for a play.
