Working today at the wonderful remnants of Cerne Abbey, in Dorset. Bitterly cold, but strangely warm in the old Abbot’s Gate ‘tower’. A thrill to be handed the ancient old door key, and left alone to capture all the history. Little remains of the old abbey and cloisters, the site of a recent Time Team dig, so it’s our job to rebuild the old place (in fully explorable 3D no less!) for the forthcoming show.

Working in pretty Sherborne, Dorset, historic buildings include Sherborne Abbey, its manor house, independent schools, and two castles: the ruins of a 12th-century fortified palace and the 16th-century mansion known as Sherborne Castle built by Sir Walter Raleigh. Much of the old town, including the abbey and many medieval and Georgian buildings, is built from distinctive ochre-coloured ham stone.

This is the Fogou at Boden, in Cornwall. It’s nominated for an award, Best Research Project.

The Meneage Archaeology Group and Time Team have found all sorts of fascinating archaeology here; Bronze Age, Roman and Iron Age. Lots of artifacts! The star of the site is the Fogou, a mysterious subterranean passage system and chamber. It was discovered when the landowners tractor 🚜 almost fell into the mysterious ‘void’.

LOOE - Medieval backstreets and historical buildings, from 600 year old merchants houses to old stone smugglers cottages. There’s a wealth of antiquity in the quiet lanes of Looe, a town which often gets overlooked for its architectural history. Thankfully our forthcoming paranormal and history tours will be taking a good look at the highlights, as well as a presentation of archive photos and film. 🎥

Looking back to some jobs from last Summer. ☀️
Continuing our recording and capture of the fascinating Fogou, at Boden in Cornwall (down on the Lizard). The Iron Age warren of passages and tunnels continues to surprise archaeologists and diggers at Meneage Archaeology Group (MAG) The TV show Time Team had a great dig here a few years back, when the legendary archaeology show returned to screens. Here’s me and archaeologist James Gossip looking over John Gaters ‘geophysics’ of the site, speculating about what may still lay hidden, beneath the ground.
