👻 Preparing for a return trip to Drake’s Island, Plymouth, Devon. Shadow Tor have spent many hours on the island, recording and scanning the ruins as they are uncovered, buried deep under decades of ivy and bushes.

The island was originally a religious site, with a small chapel on the summit, but by the 15thC the island had become a fortified bastion, protecting Plymouth from invasion. War and defence have shaped the island, through Napoleonic and 2 World Wars. Tunnels and ammo stores form a warren of passages beneath the grassy mound, most from the 1860’s, but others are harder to date. There was a fort atop the island in the 16thC, with much rumour of secret cells and even an oubliette. 💀

Sir Francis Drake set sail from the island to circumnavigate the globe, James Cook left on two explorations, as well as Charles Darwin in 1831. 🐢

Shadow Tor got involved with the island following an initial trip and corresponding write-up for HAUNTED Magazine. We were impressed by the ghost stories and old ruins.

Several capture jobs later, and one sleepover, we’re now preparing for a full investigation this Monday. The Ghost Time crew on this occasion will be Matt Clark leading, with Jonathan Boakes and Emma Harry as willing assistants. The good ‘ol gadgets are packed, research done and we’re ready for an adventure.

A nice job designing the titles for a paranormal / history show, currently in the edit. The team includes archaeologists, digital historians, an archaeozoologist and our very own Shadow Tor Studios along with Emma Harry. Diving deep into history, the team investigate legendary ghost stories, with an interest in historical fact and folklore, exploring where the two meet. 3 episodes have been filmed already, Pontefract, Exeter and Dartmoor, with a final instalment due to be filmed this next week. Matt Clark returns to spend a night on Drake’s Island, with Emma Harry and Jonathan Boakes🏴‍☠️ 👻

Capturing and 3D graphics job at Defender Burghley Horse Trials; one of the countries biggest equestrian events, in the wonderful estate here in Lincolnshire.

This is Shadow Tors 3rd year at Burghley, providing 3D map ‘race’ graphics and individual ‘hero’ highlights of key parts of the course. 🐎 The footage appears at the event, as well as broadcast on the BBC and Burghleys own channel.

The landscape around Burghley House was designed by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown, the famous 18th Century English gardener and landscape architect. He is the most famous figure in the history of the English landscape garden style, remembered as "the last of the great English 18th-century artists to be accorded his due" and "England's greatest gardener". It’s always a pleasure to capture the estate and represent in 3D.

Fully explorable in a series of 3D ‘game levels’ by Shadow Tor Studios, most were produced for television and academic projects, teaching aids and documentary cinematics. Two have potential for full game status. With various clients across the globe, from Australia to America, Shadow Tor has really grown in the last couple of years.

A ‘first person’ exploration of the Champernowne Manor, at Modbury, Devon. Little remains of the old place now, with stony remnants scattered across the old Devon town. But, through the gift of technology like Game Levels and VR, the old house lives again. The 3D house contains some of the masonry found during the Time Team dig in 2023, 3D scanned on site, and inserted into the game level like a crazy archaeological jigsaw puzzle. The 3D level is fully explorable, on computers, VR and handhelds.
