Trading Up – Resonate Transforms tired Warehouse into Vibrant
Co-warehousing space for Tradestars

Resonate Interiors was appointed to undertake the architecture, design and PDBR for Tradestars, a co-working space which offers flexible workspaces, warehouses and studios in Islington. Tasked with transforming a tired 1980’s warehouse, Resonate’s brief was to create an entrepreneurial hub for start-ups and incubator businesses in a co-warehousing environment. The space needed to accommodate a diverse range of industries with different requirements, from tattoo studios, barbers, podcasts to rug companies, Resonate’s focus was on creating a unique collaborative space that brought together the different businesses creating a community feeling in the workplace. The overall layout ensures that businesses, whether small or large, can operate efficiently while enjoying a collaborative environment.

Resonate pushed the boundaries of the brief in both spatial design and branding. A dramatic, feature is the suspended ‘pod’ located within the building's central hub. Designed as a ‘floating’ podcast studio it was created by cutting a 3.5m X 3.5m void in the first floor and suspending half a recycled shipping container within it directly above the café space.

Throughout the interior, branding and attention to detail was woven into every aspect of the project, from the outside facade, steel frame doors and toilets on each floor painted in the four Tradestars brand colours.

The outside facade was integral to the design story and needed to create a strong street presence, enabling it to stand out within its tree-lined residential setting.

Echoed through all of Resonate’s projects are its seven principles of sustainable design and construction, involving the building materials used, indoor air quality, waste reduction, water conservation, longevity and durability, energy efficiency and sustainable design methods – all key elements to ensure the highest level of sustainability.

REGISTRATION FOR THE 2026 SURFACE DESIGN SHOW IS OFFICIALLY LIVE!
With just under 3 months to go until the Surface Design Show opens its doors to the public, championing Material Evolution

The SurfaceThinking (SDS26) promises to be an unmissable event, bringing together surface specialists from all over the world. From 3-5 February, the Business Design Centre in Islington, London is where the entire design community will immerse itself in the latest and most inspiring materials for the built environment.

The 2026 edition proves to be bigger and better with well-loved returning features including Surface Spotlight, Stone Tapestry, Innovation Gallery, Green Grads and Surface Design Awards. SDS has also announced a new partnership with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) serving as a host partner for two of RIBA's most significant annual events.

From the 3-5 February the Business Design Centre in Islington will be home to surface specialists from a range of sectors, many of whom will be unveiling new materials and innovations.

The theme for 2026 Material Evolution calls for a rethinking of newness and how we can make a shift from waste to worth. Material Evolution celebrates thoughtful design and redefines what it means to be new whilst championing circular systems, material transparency, and inventive reuse.

We will once again see the Young Architects and Developers Alliance at the show for their annual YADA x Surface Design Show networking event.

SDS26 is a must in the design calendar to explore all creative things within the material and surface world.

KI Launches the Sutton Chair
A homage to mid-century design, Sutton is a future-proof classic

Reimagined for 2025, this design classic is manufactured in the UK using modern injection-moulding to create a single, durable piece that offers strength and stability. The result is a future-proof chair that beautifully blends the aesthetics of a classic mixed-material classroom chair with a slick, minimalist design.

Sutton is available in classic Iron Grey, as well as Denim, Latte and Terracotta, which were key colours identified by the trend forecasting team at Scarlet Opus for 2025/26. KI has also announced an additional new colour to the collection; Lagoon, which was chosen during Clerkenwell Design Week 2025.

Sutton's stain-resistant, anti-static, and easy-to-clean finish makes it ideal for high traffic areas like cafes, office canteens, break-out spaces, and sixth-form colleges. There are also features of advanced ergonomics including a waterfall seat edge, a curved backrest, and superior flexibility to maximize user comfort.

Humanscale Expands Global Footprint With APAC Headquarters in Singapore

Humanscale, the leading designer and manufacturer of high-performance workplace products, has opened a new showroom in Singapore, serving as the company’s Asia Pacific (APAC) Headquarters. Situated in one of the city’s most distinguished creative districts—home to leading architecture studios, interior design firms and furniture showrooms—the 3,000-square-foot space marks a significant milestone in Humanscale’s continued investment in the Asia Pacific and international markets.

Based within a heritage shophouse—a building typical of Singapore and reflective of its colonial past and multicultural influences—these two- to three-storey terraced buildings, constructed between the 1840s and 1960s, are known for their narrow façades, distinctive architecture, and sheltered ‘five-foot’ pedestrian walkways. The showroom seamlessly integrates the beautiful traditional façade with a sleek interior that takes visitors and clients on a journey through Humanscale's award-winning ergonomic designs.

True to Humanscale’s design philosophy, the new showroom is used to display work environments of beauty, comfort, and sustainability. The space features a selection of our task and meeting collection chairs including Humanscale’s iconic Freedom, World, Liberty, Summa, and Path chairs, alongside six workstations that demonstrate the brand’s full range of high-performance solutions.
