Glastonbury will take a fallow year in 2026 to let the land rest, confirmed organiser Emily Eavis in The Sun.

This follows the 2025 event, for which planning is already underway with potential acts.

The festival, held at Worthy Farm, periodically pauses to allow the cattle farm's land to recover.

The last fallow year was in 2018, with additional breaks in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19.
Emily Eavis mentioned on the BBC Sidetracked podcast that the fallow year helps the land and cows, and allows everyone to take a break. She also emphasised it prevents the festival from appearing too commercialised.

She also shared that Glastonbury almost ended in the '90s when her father, Sir Michael Eavis, considered retiring. After his wife's death in 1999, he decided to continue, with Emily stepping in to help.

The festival recently took place from June 26-30, featuring headline performances by Dua Lipa, SZA, and Coldplay, with Shania Twain in the Sunday "legends” slot.

Other acts included Little Simz, Burna Boy, The Streets, Bicep, Disclosure, and LCD Soundsystem.

This year's event faced additional criticism for overcrowding and safety issues, with resident advisor amongst others releasing an opinion piece on the issue and how the festival might adapt to this moving forward.

You Had To Be There! Jodie Harsh announces debut book release

DJ and producer Jodie Harsh is stepping into the literary world with her debut book, You Had To Be There. This memoir follows her journey through London’s club scene, starting from her arrival in the city at just 15 years old.

The book takes readers on a tour of Jodie’s favourite haunts, including legendary nightclubs like Astoria, The Cross, Mahiki, Boombox, and The End. Jodie shares unforgettable nights out, wild parties at friends' houses, and the atmosphere that defined an era.
Jodie’s story also touches on the evolution of the city itself. She provides a personal look at how London’s nightlife and culture reshaped after the 2008 financial crash and reveals the birth of her iconic blonde beehive.

"For a decade, I barely slept. I frantically jumped from club to club in a London that is now lost but not forgotten. My decadence almost destroyed me, but thankfully I kept on dancing. I’ve finally written the book I have always wanted to read, and I can’t wait to introduce you to the characters, and the places, that made it all so wild.”

Beyond her book, Jodie continues to light up the nightlife with her weekly queer-centred event, Feel It, at OMEARA. The event features top acts like The Blessed Madonna, Fatboy Slim, Confidence Man, and salute.

In 2021, Jodie starred in the Google documentary A Search Story, which highlighted her influence in the dance music scene from the '00s. The documentary explored themes of self-expression and the fluidity of the LGBTQ+ nightlife scene.

You Had To Be There is set to release in Autumn 2025 via Faber and is available for pre-order here.

It’s almost time.

In just 2 weeks Glastonbury will return and debut its first-ever quadrophonic sound system at the new ambient Tree Stage in the Woodsies area. Nestled under an oak canopy, the Tree Stage offers a five-day program featuring ambient music and immersive art.

The quadrophonic sound system surrounds listeners with music, creating a unique, immersive experience. Sound designer Jamie Harley describes it as being enveloped in a "bubble of sound," with different sensations as you move around.

The Tree Stage will host performances from artists like The Orb, KMRU, Ana Roxanne, Max Cooper (with a live A/V set), and Jon Hopkins, who will present his new album ‘RITUAL’ in an exclusive playback experience.

Opening after the main stage headliners finish, the Tree Stage runs until 3:00 AM on Friday and Saturday, and until 2:30 AM on Sunday. Harley highlights the stage's communal atmosphere and invites festival-goers to enjoy the cosmic experience late into the night.

This year the Genosys stage returns to Block9 and Shangri-La introduces Glastonbury’s inaugural South Asian space.

The Dragonfly stage also boasts a diverse lineup featuring the likes of Amelie Lens, Andy C, and Fatboy Slim + The Glade stage welcomes Kurupt FM, CamelPhat, Mall Grab, and Faithless, among others.

Headlining the Genosys stage on Friday night is the incomparable Honey Dijon, joined by a stellar lineup that includes Ahadadream and Midland, meanwhile the Nowhere stage hosts a special celebration marking 25 years of Defected, featuring Gorgon City and Sam Divine.

Peggy Gou will also headline The Park stage on Saturday night.

Find more key stages and set times here, or watch coverage from the main stages over the weekend on the BBC (UK viewers only).

'Believe Me Now?': Becky Hill Unveils New Album

Becky Hill has released her highly anticipated second album, 'Believe Me Now?', via Polydor/Astralwerks. Dropped on Friday, May 31st, this marks her first studio album since 'Only Honest on the Weekend’ in 2021.

With an impressive 17 million monthly listeners on Spotify and over 10 billion streams, Hill's influence and impact on the music industry are substantial. She has garnered multiple million-selling singles in the UK, six Top 10 hits, a No.1 single, and two BRIT Awards for Best Dance Act.

Reflecting on the new album, Hill shared, “Looking back at my previous work, I realised I was missing elements of euphoria and aimed to create a more mature, sophisticated dance music sound. Writing this album was straightforward and swift because, for the first time, I knew exactly what I wanted to express. I’m extremely proud of this album and what it represents.”

The album features 15 tracks forming an array of pop anthems and dancefloor hits, including 'Darkest Hour,' co-written by MNEK, and 'Multiply,' inspired by future house.

Becky Hill's album 'Believe Me Now?' has produced six hit singles:

"Side Effects" (Feat. Lewis Thompson, May 12, 2023) – UK #35, UK Dance #12
"Disconnect" (with Chase & Status, July 14, 2023) – UK #6
"Never Be Alone" (January 19, 2024) – UK #23
"Outside of Love" (March 28, 2024) – UK #54
"Right Here" (May 1, 2024)
"True Colours" (Feat. Self Esteem, May 24, 2024)

In an interview with DJ Mag, Hill stated, “I am an artist, and I don’t need to keep chasing the charts to feel successful. This album proves it, which is why it’s called ‘Believe Me Now?’”. After performing at Radio 1’s Big Weekend and recently completing her first European headline tour, Hill is now set to embark on a sold-out UK arena tour in October followed in November by her largest North American shows to date.

Tickets and tour details are available here.

Ace: The long awaited headphones from SONOS.

SONOS has unveiled its long-rumoured Ace wireless headphones.

Featuring spatial audio, dynamic head tracking, lossless audio (where supported), Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), and Dolby Atmos, they can connect directly to SONOS soundbars and use acoustic modelling technology to create a room profile for the headphones, providing a sense of 'space' based on your environment.

Ace can automatically switch between soundbar and headphone mode when placed on your head, making it easy to continue watching movies without disturbing others.

They offer 30 hours of battery life with ANC on and have a rapid charging feature that provides three hours of playback with just three minutes of charging. Although they include a USB-C to 3.5mm jack, they cannot be used in passive mode when the battery is dead.

Designed for long-term comfort, the headphones feature a ported acoustic architecture for enhanced bass response. SONOS has invested significantly in the Ace's sound quality, using custom-designed components and advanced software to deliver high-fidelity audio.

Priced at £449 and will be available from June 5th, with pre-orders open now on the SONOS website.

Brooklyn Storehouse: The new 5000 capacity warehouse venue in New York

Broadwick Live has announced its first US venue, a 5,000-capacity warehouse in Brooklyn, New York, named Brooklyn Storehouse.

Partnering with US design company TCE Presents, this marks a new "transatlantic relationship." Located in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, the 104,000 square foot space opens this month as a "cultural and arts space" hosting events like fashion shows, music shows, art exhibitions, and brand activations.

Previously, the space hosted events like Ralph Lauren's Spring 2024 runway show. While launch details are pending, Broadwick Live has confirmed that Justice, Charlotte de Witte, and Eric Prydz will be initial performers.

Luke Huxham, Broadwick's Director of Development and Place, stated that Brooklyn Storehouse is their most ambitious project, transforming industrial spaces into cultural hubs with a "sustainable, enhancing" design approach.

This first US venue for Broadwick Live adds to their portfolio of over 30 venues, including DRUMSHEDS, Depot Mayfield, and Field Day.

Closing time: Five UK nightclubs shuttered each week in 2024

Figures reveal a sharp drop in venue numbers during the first quarter of the year.
A recent report unveils that the UK has closed five nightclubs per week throughout the ongoing year of 2024.

According to data compiled by the Night Time Industries Association (NTIA), there has been a noticeable drop in venue numbers, marking a concerning trend. In the initial quarter of 2024 alone, a total of 67 nightclubs have ceased operations, translating to an average of about five closures weekly.

Among the closed establishments, a notable 48 were independently owned, illustrating a distressing pattern of a 40% downturn in independently operated nightclubs over the past four years, as highlighted by the organisation.

Reasons for this steep decline include the lasting economic repercussions of the COVID pandemic, increased contention over noise complaints, escalating expenses for bills and rent, and accumulating debts.

Michael Kill, CEO of NTIA, has voiced deep concern regarding these statistics, underlining the vital cultural and social role that nightclubs play within the fabric of the UK's nightlife.

The NTIA is asking for immediate action to be taken, advocating for a VAT reduction tailored specifically for nightclubs. Such action is deemed essential to protect the longevity of UK nightlife and ensure the sustainability of the night-time economy.

Museo Discoteca: Italy’s first disco museum to open in Riccione

Italy's first disco museum, Museo Discoteca (MUDI), is set to open in Riccione on May 19.

Located in the iconic pyramid-shaped Cocoricò music venue, MUDI will offer a blend of visual art and music, combining performance, design, and sound across various spaces.

The museum will feature contemporary artworks that promise to turn every night into a cultural experience stimulating both the mind and senses, according to a press release.

The grand opening will include a "sensory performance" by musician and designer Filippo Sorcinelli titled 'Ciao S*x' in Cocoricò's unique bathroom.

The Salò collective will present a performance combining noise, avant-rock, and psychedelia, while erotic brand MySecretCase will provide a mix of sexual education and live entertainment.

Films and documentaries by La Furia Film, Sunset Productions, and Francesco Tavella will be shown in the T-Room, followed by a live poster art exhibition from Sara Leghissa in the Pyramid’s corridors. Animation group Collettivo Colore will take over a secret room, culminating in a "grand finale" in the main room featuring Italian ballroom culture with voguing, a runway, and lip-sync battles.

After the opening event, MUDI will continue to display nearly 30 works by prominent Italian artists, both visual and musical. A digital exhibition will also be launched, extending the museum's reach into the virtual realm. This summer, Cocoricò will host performances by Ricardo Villalobos, Deborah De Luca, Amelie Lens, and others.

A Paradigm Shift: How AI is transforming music production

In the realm of music production, AI is leading a revolutionary transformation. Gone are the days of intricate instrumental skills and extensive studio time.

With AI-driven tools, musicians can craft melodies, harmonies, and entire compositions using simple text prompts, making music production accessible to anyone with a creative spark and a computer.

By typing a few words describing the mood, genre, or lyrical theme, AI algorithms can translate those inputs into full musical compositions with astonishing accuracy.

This newfound accessibility empowers aspiring musicians to experiment freely and explore new genres and styles without constraints. Additionally, AI serves as a valuable tool for seasoned professionals, streamlining their workflow and sparking inspiration.

Despite its benefits, the rise of AI in music production presents challenges. Critics question whether AI-generated music can match the emotional depth of human compositions and worry about the potential displacement of human musicians.

As AI tools become more sophisticated, there's concern that they may eventually replace human creativity altogether, relegating musicians to mere curators of algorithms.

Nevertheless, the fusion of human creativity with AI promises to push the boundaries of musical innovation. By augmenting human capabilities with machine intelligence, musicians can unlock new realms of possibility, reshaping the music landscape and ushering in a harmonious fusion of art and technology.

Elevenlabs, being an example of one of these AI programs, is releasing an AI music generator complete with vocals. They promoted this on X where they stated “ All of the songs in this thread were generated from a single text prompt with no edits.” Check out some of these examples on their YouTube channel! Is AI music here to stay?
