We've all been there. You're in the queue for tickets. They sell out in seconds -- but you find them on Viagogo or StubHub hours later for double or triple the face value.

This practise isn't new and has been ripping fans off for years, so in bit to combat this and fulfilling a Labour election pledge the UK government plans to cap resale ticket prices in 2025.

The cap targets the live events industry, including music, sports, comedy, and theatre, responding to complaints about touts bulk-buying tickets and reselling at steep markups.

A public consultation will determine the cap, potentially ranging from the ticket's face value to 30% above it. Ministers also propose limiting the number of tickets resellers can sell to match the original purchase limits. The consultation will also address dynamic pricing, where ticket prices increase during high demand, highlighted by the recent Oasis reunion ticket controversy.

The Competition and Market Authority (CMA) reports resale tickets are often marked up by over 50%. Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy stated, "We are strengthening consumer protections to stop fans from being ripped off and to ensure money supports the live events sector, not touts."

A fairer format already operates from platforms such as TicketSwap (where the re-sale values are capped), but this is not standard across the ticketing industry.

Ticket resale platform Viagogo expressed willingness to work with the government and respond to the consultation.

Research estimates ticket touts cost UK music fans £145 million annually. In the US, the Department of Justice sued Ticketmaster parent Live Nation last May to address alleged monopolistic practices.

The first weekend of the year has arrived, and whilst some of us might already be back at work, a fair few of us are (questionably) still recovering from those NYE celebrations.

From iconic venues to intimate spaces, these events showcased the best in dance music, ensuring revellers welcomed 2025 in unforgettable style.

Here's a round up from across the UK 🌟

Manchester: Defected & Glitterbox Unite /
At Warehouse Project Manchester, two powerhouses of house music, Defected and Glitterbox, joined forces to deliver an unmissable night. Featuring Groove Armada, Low Steppa, Sam Divine, and Shermanology, this event lit up Manchester with soulful beats and euphoric vibes across three rooms.

London: KOKO’s Eclectic Electronic Nights /
In the capital, KOKO offered a night of diversity with performances from Mr. Scruff, Dombrance (Live), Demi Riquísimo, and more. With its unique venue and stellar line-up, this was the place for those seeking a blend of innovative sounds.

Nottingham: Gok Wan’s Groovebox Magic /
The Pitcher and Piano played host to Gok Wan’s Groovebox NYE. This unique event combined a stunning church setting with house music mastery, delivering an ethereal yet energetic celebration.

Greenwich: LoveJuice Brings the Fireworks /
Studio 338 in Greenwich paired house legends like Low Steppa and Sidney Charles with a spectacular midnight fireworks display, creating a perfect mix of music and magic.

Belfast: SHINE’s Unmissable Night /
The Telegraph Building in Belfast saw SHINE x BARBED host an electrifying line-up with Mark Blair and Holy Priest. Known for its vibrant energy and top-tier sound, SHINE delivered yet another stellar NYE.

Once again these events prove that the UK’s electronic music scene knows how to throw a party. But what about you? Did you head to the club, discover a hidden gem, or celebrate another way entirely? Let us know how celebrated the countdown!

BLOND:ISH, the Canadian DJ, producer, and activist, is gearing up to release her new album, Never Walk Alone, on vinyl made from an unexpected material: recycled cooking oil.

The record, set to drop on February 14, 2025, is her first full-length album to be pressed on vinyl and is crafted from 100% recycled materials.

The vinyl is produced by BioVinyl, a sustainable pressing plant that uses bio-attributed PVC made from biogenic waste like cooking oil. The process drastically reduces carbon emissions—by up to 90%—and is nearly petroleum-free, making it a groundbreaking step toward more eco-friendly music production.

Despite the innovative material, the blue-tinted records maintain the same high quality as traditional vinyl in terms of sound and appearance.

“This material is 99.98% petroleum-free,” explained a press release, “and the long-term goal is to completely phase out PVC vinyl.” The release highlights BLOND:ISH’s broader commitment to sustainability and her dedication to promoting a circular economy within the music industry.
