My work is all about realism and learning to draw and paint realistically. I think this is important in art because before photographs were invented, we relied on hand made drawings. You just can't beat something that is made with your hands! There's a real satisfaction about that and my purpose as an artist is to help people learn how to do this themselves. When someone draws something and they say to me, 'wow, that actually looks like a chair' or whatever it is they are drawing then I know that I've done my job. Art can help improve someone's mental health, it gives them a purpose and a sense of achievement and I want to help people reach that goal.
Early works by legendary David Hockey. Have you ever seen his work in these neutral tones? It's so interesting to watch an artists medium develop and change over the span of their careers and to serve as a reminder of the unlimited possibilities to reinvent ourselves and our work!

Mary Cassatt began to experiment with drypoint, a printmaking technique in which an artist draws directly into a copper plate with a needle. This print belongs to a series that she created at this time, each characterised by a sketchiness akin to drawing. it depicts Mary (Mimi) Johnston, Cassatt's second cousin who travelled frequently to Europe and spent long periods of time in Paris.

This most recent series of work reflects the uneasiness I feel about institutional control and the many ways it impacts peoples lives. I’m not sure if this work serves anyone in my community but the act of making it helps me to express how I feel.
