The Majestic King's Guard on Duty at Horse Guards and This Happened on 10 December 2024 in London, UK. ♥️🇬🇧 Timestamps:

The King’s Life Guard is conducted by soldiers of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment at Horse Guards. Horse Guards is named after the troops who have mounted The King’s Life Guard here since the Restoration of King Charles II in 1660.

The ceremony has remained mostly unchanged for over 350 years.

Changing of The King's Life Guard
The ceremony of changing of the King’s Life Guard starts at 11am with the Old Guard formed up on Horse Guards Parade. As the New Guard arrives, a trumpeter sounds a royal salute and the officer salutes. The New Guard forms up facing the old one.

Once both lines are still, the corporal major, senior non-commissioned officer and sentries of the New Guard (the first relief) rein back their horses and leave for the guard room to take over their duties, which lasts for 48 hours. The sentries from the Old Guard return to the parade ground and the entire Old Guard returns back to barracks.

When the monarch is in London, there is a ‘long guard’ consisting of an officer, corporal major (who carries the regimental standard), two non commissioned officers, a trumpeter and 10 troopers. When the monarch is away, the guard is reduced to two non-commissioned officers and 10 troopers known as a ‘short guard’.

Whatever the season or weather, members of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment ride down from Hyde Park Barracks in Knightsbridge to take over guard duties.

TIMINGS OF DUTIES

The Guard Change currently takes place on: Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 11am.

The two iconic soldiers on horses that mount duty on Whitehall at the entrance of Horse Guards change on the hour every hour from 10am until 4pm.

This ensures that, regardless of the time you choose to visit the museum, you are guaranteed a captivating spectacle of ceremonial duties in progress.

The King’s Life Guard is the name given to the guard duty performed by The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment at Horse Guards. It dates from 1660 when The Life Guards mounted a permanent guard at the entrance to Whitehall Palace.

Responsibility for mounting the guard alternates between

8:15 "GET OUT OF THE BOX!" The King's Guard reacted as the tourist broke the new rule: When visiting the Horse Guards, do not cross the white line.
11:50 Two gorgeous police horses are passing through Horse Guards.
18:34 "Get out of the box!" said the King's Guard.
30:15 The famous Changing of the Guard at 3 pm.
33:17 The Emir of Qatar 🇶🇦 passed the King's car in front of Horse Guards on the way to 10 Downing Street to visit the UK's Prime Minister.
36:50 A man with a large backpack tried to touch both horses, and the female King's Guard reacted accordingly. It is not allowed to touch the King's horse.

The King’s Life Guard is conducted by soldiers of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment at Horse Guards. Horse Guards is named after the troops who have mounted The King’s Life Guard here since the Restoration of King Charles II in 1660. Every weekday, whatever the season or weather, members of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment ride down from Hyde Park Barracks in Knightsbridge to take over guard duties at 11:00am for the next twenty–four hours.
The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment consists of a squadron from each of the two senior Regiments of the British Army: The Life Guards wear red tunics and white plumed helmets, and The Blues and Royals wear blue tunics and red plumed helmets.
When The King is in London, the Guard consists of one Officer, one Corporal Major (who carries the Standard), two Non-Commissioned Officers, one Trumpeter and ten Troopers. This is known as a Long Guard. When His Majesty is not resident in London, the Guard is reduced to two Non-Commissioned Officers and ten Troopers. This is known as a Short Guard.

Troop Movements
On weekdays, The King’s Life Guard leaves Hyde Park Barracks at 10:28am and rides to Horse Guards Parade passing through Hyde Park Corner and along Constitution Hill and The Mall. The ceremony of Changing The King’s Life Guard then takes place on Horse Guards Parade at 11:00am.
On weekends, The King’s Life Guard remains in place at Horse Guards Parade, where the duty officer will inspect them at 1100am on Saturdays and 1000am on Sundays.
During most of the day the entrance to Horse Guards is guarded by two mounted sentries. After the duty officer has inspected them at 4:00pm, all personnel, mounted and dismounted, will come off duty for the day.

When to Watch
• Changing of The King’s Life Guard at 11:00am (Monday - Friday)
• The Duty Officer's Inspection at 1100 on Saturdays and 1000 on Sundays
• Two mounted sentries guard the entrance to Horse Guards on Whitehall from 10:00am until 4:00pm. These are changed every hour.
• Dismounted inspection of the guard at 4:00pm daily.
