Damn, this news has affected me more than I thought it might. Steve Albini made some of my favourite albums, and 61 is too young to pass.

Steve Albini, the noise rock pioneer with Big Black and Shellac who also engineered alternative rock classics, has died at the age of 61.

Quite amazing to see that songs that I have worked on have racked up over 4.7 billion plays online! Plenty of other people have much higher numbers, but it’s still nice to feel that I played a small part in so many people enjoying listening to music!

I recently got invited to Denmark to record a demo video for GOLY’s fantastic new Dynamic Tracking Dock. The idea was to be as minimal as possible, and record a live jazz band with just four Tracking Docks, one mic’ per instrument, with some great Danish musicians (including the company owner and equipment designer on bass). We ended up with one extra mic’ on the kick drum, and here is the resulting presentation video!
