As local newspapers and magazines continue to struggle, those within the industry are turning to data and statistics in their efforts to revive this floundering sector. But these provide only a partial glimpse at the role of journalism in society. We must also look at more qualitative factors to secure the future success of local journalism. This year Social Streets will be undertaking an extensive consultation of its readers to measure the social value of the local journalism it is delivering, looking at four main areas of impact: Community, Culture, Wellbeing and Local Economy.
