Happy Black Tot Day! 🖤🧡⚓️🥃

We are celebrating with ’s glorious new Master Blender’s Reserve 2024 by , enjoying the sun (and confusing the heck out of the cats visiting the garden by shouting ’ “There are Tall Ships” toast at them). 🐈🐈‍⬛🌻☀️

For 2024, the brand focused on rum from Barbados, which forms 60% of the blend. However, there is also notable appearances from Caroni (25%) and a number of other exciting components (please visit the Black Tot website for the full breakdown) The 2024 is aged in a combination of American and European oak casks and offered un-chill filtered at 54.5% ABV, with a total outturn limited to 3,000 bottles worldwide.

Black Tot Master Blender’s Reserve 2024 Tasting Notes

👃 A nose full of ripe, black spotted bananas, biscoff and fruity coffee grounds. Tinned pineapple in syrup, white grape juice, tangerines, nectarines, plump papaya and raisins make up a gorgeously fruity bouquet. White chocolate mice peak through with a touch of capsicum pepper vegetation, mint and lime. Dry charred wood with subtle recollections of eucalyptus round of the initial nose.

👅 Deeper, earthy coffee grounds leap onto the palate, briefly bowing to the Caroni in the blend before Barbados takes back control, transforming into warm tropical melon, guava, rambutan and mangosteen. Vanilla pods, bitter cacao nibs, burnt to***co leaf, cherry pips, cinnamon and nutmeg spice the bright orange and dried mango, continuing a beautiful oscillation between fruit, spice and savoury that makes this such a treat.

Had fun creating this cocktail for ​⭐ Episode 3: The Chairwoman’s Series back in May⭐

May = Mango season in my head. So when I was asked to create a cocktail using Chairman’s Reserve Original, with its gorgeous tropical fruit notes, zesty citrus, earthy spice, light brine-ness and dry herbaceousness, I knew the two had to come together 🥭🥃 The fino plays with the slightly smoked oak character, olive brine, grape juice, waxy nuttiness and citrus peel I find in the rum, whilst keeping the mango’s richer elements in check and letting the fruit act as a pedestal for Chairman’s natural flavours to shine from.

🥭🦜 ​Parakeet 🦜🥭

​Ingredients:
​55ml – Kesar mango infused Chairman’s Reserve Original
​20ml – Mango stone & skin infused Fino Sherry
​15ml – Sauternes
​10ml – Lime juice
​Ice
​Garnish: used mango skin

​Instructions:
​1️⃣ Cut up two Kesar mangoes and add the flesh to 150ml Chairman’s Reserve Original. Leave in an airtight container for 36 hours; the sweet but tart mango bumps up the already gorgeous tropical and citrus notes of the rum

​2️⃣ Add the mango skin and stones to 100ml of Fino Sherry. Leave in an airtight container for 36 hours

​3️⃣ After 36 hours, strain both the rum and the sherry into separate containers using muslin cloth until the solid have been removed

​4️⃣ Add the infused Chairman’s rum and fino sherry to a shaker with the other ingredients

​5️⃣ Give it a short sharp shake and double strain into a chilled Nick & Nora. Garnish with some of the used mango skin

Always good to catch up with , especially when he suggests we pop to for a .uk XO Old Fashioned! 🤤

Doorly’s XO is such a staple in our home bar, glass, and hearts. This blend of pot and column still rum from has been matured for at least six years and finished in an oloroso sherry cask.

👃 A rich, full-on nose bursting with warm toffee, plump raisins, clove studded orange, red apple, plum, redcurrants, walnut, sherry, fruitcake, ginger, coconut, banana, vanilla, milk chocolate, a touch of liquorice, and hazelnut.

👅 A surprising burst of whipped cream, followed by rich caramel, marzipan, singed orange, heaps of spice, soaking Christmas pudding fruit, liquorice, barbecued banana, treacle, dark chocolate, toasted coconut, plum, dried pineapple, poached peach, and red apple. Sweet fruity notes build along with baking spices and an appealing integration of wood that adds dryness without being overpowering. This is an insanely balanced rum that is dangerously drinkable and wonderfully complex.

🥃 Works perfectly in a spirit-forward cocktail, and this Old Fashioned by hit the mark dead on 🙏🏽

Great to see our friends doing so well. Popped along to their takeover .mayfair.bar, which will be running until April. The bar has been decked out in their artwork and is super slick. The food pairings (think Wagyu birders, spiced calamari, beef skewers. and lobster tacos) are perfect accompaniments to the cocktails so be sure to get some!

Absolutely LOVED our recent visit to – a new agave-centric hideaway in Notting Hill with an incredible back bar, flawless cocktails, and great service.

We went in for “just a few” and ended up sampling the whole menu (as well as a moreish Tommy’s). It would be impossible to pick a favourite as all the drinks perfectly celebrated the agave spirits inside – whether that be their saline minerality, savoury vegetal nature, caramelised piña notes, or delicate smoked flavour. For an agave nerd with a love of short savoury serves, this place is a dream 💚

We can’t wait to go back when the kitchen opens!

The auction will run from 27th November to 6th December and includes so exceptionally rare bottlings from Foursquare Rum Distillery, That Boutique-y Rum Company, Capreolus Distillery & Garden Swift Gin, Corte Vetusto Mezcal & Tequila Ocho.

We didn’t get a chance to do much this year but there was no way that we were going to miss ’ Omakase Takeover !

LRD imported their farm-to-table approach to the Peckham cocktail spot, inviting guests to outline their preferences, desired spend cap and stay time before crafting a selection of drinks showcasing local independent South London brands (amongst others).

Some notable stops in the journey were a light and savoury sake martini that played three sakes against each other to create a gently umami sipper with dry yet supple mouthfeel, and a ferment-y mead treat, enlivened by a custom spiking of divine blackcurrant eau de vie that added to the earthy, herbaceous notes of the cocktail.

Looking back on some of the exquisite expressions we came across this .

We tried our best to focus on new bottlings as opposed to going to our old favourites and were not disappointed!

Here are a few choice highlights, including this incredibly , a cheeky Coffey distillate, the delicious , a surprise new favourite in (that overproof!), some bizarre but amazing blends , and of course the latest from .

We can’t wait until next year! 🥃
