Director, Massimo Fenati said, “I’ve been working with Halo for a few years on a number of animation projects and they’ve always been consistently good on all levels: professional, reliable, friendly, welcoming, easy to work with and always happy to help. For my latest creative effort, Quentin Blake’s Box of Treasures for the BBC, I’ve worked with Jay Price and Gerrit Swanepoel in the sound department and I can only say good things about them. Their sound design and final mix really made the films come together, also making the most of the BBC Philharmonic recording of our bespoke soundtrack: it was vital to highlight and enhance that, whilst giving the right prominence to the voice overs and making sure every small sound effect could be heard, resulting in a perfectly balanced symphony of music, voices and foley.”

The new documentary ‘Rooted in the West Bank’, by multi-award-winning filmmaker Bruno Sorrentino of Palio Films and Israeli director and producer Uri Fruchtman, follows the lives of Atta and Rudina Jaber and their family, uniquely spanning 25 years. In a farmer's struggle to stay steadfast, this film is a moving testimony to the depth of one man’s humanity in the face of intensifying settler violence and intimidation.

Colourist Katherine Jamieson’s masterful grade heightened each scene of our dramatic recreation, giving it an atmospheric beauty, playing with perspective and adding colour or desaturating images as the story dictated, as well as elevating the kaleidoscope of archive in the series. Dubbing mixer Gerrit Swanepoel made the most of our dramatic score and the wide variety of elements that make up the series, creating an epic and memorable soundscape. This feature-length documentary explores the mystery of the strange whale and asks where he came from, who trained him and why; and what he was doing in a critically important part of the Arctic, close to Russian waters.

The sound design plays a simple, supportive role in underpinning the audience’s experience, and while there were notable challenges, the whole soundtrack showcases the joys of simplicity.
The musical score throughout the documentary was wonderful from the start. It complements the unfolding story beautifully, enhancing emotional moments and creating a sense of wonder. The music varies in tone and intensity, mirroring the narrative’s highs and lows. Each piece is thoughtfully integrated, adding depth and richness to the overall viewing experience. Between the dialogue and the music 90% of this mix was covered.
The rest was simple, subtle atmospheres and minimal sound effects to underpin and heighten drama moments. This documentary offers a fascinating and compelling narrative… the sound, as a supporting character, simply needed to underscore the intrigue.”

Series Producer Sophie Binyon and Exec Producer Barnaby Coughlin said “Working with halo on Jamali Maddix: Follow the Leader was a terrific experience overall. The Production team and day-to-day management were attentive, helpful and extremely friendly. No request seemed too great, and any inevitable last-minute changes were always diligently accommodated.

The creative team were great. Right from the start, Duncan Russell really understood the look and feel of what Jamali was keen to achieve. From the colourful backdrops of Medellin, Colombia, to the bleak highways of Colorado in Winter, he enabled the episodes to reflect their distinctive surroundings, whilst skilfully keeping them visually part of the same series. It was a pleasure to work with Simon Hill too, who worked some magic on the episodes’ soundscapes. Whether it was adding depth to busy street scenes and tropical nights, or paring back the clamour of the jail to allow the dialogue to flow, he turned into what was needed and what could elevate the scenes.”
