[Travel] Designated as a Unesco World Heritage site in 2004, Mount Koya, an important Buddhist shrine, holds many surprises. It is a very mystical place that seduced the monk Kukai (renamed Kobodaishi after his death) nearly 1,200 years ago on his way back from China, where he studied Chanyang’s ta***ic doctrine. If you want to enjoy a spiritual experience, Mount Koya is made for you.

📣 New article online !

Founded nearly 80 years ago, the monthly magazine remains the standard reference for anglers and maintains its unique approach.

To get an idea of fishing’s popularity in Japan you only have to take a look at the amount of media devoted to this activity. On the internet, for instance, I found no less than 30 magazines, including monthlies, bimonthlies and quarterlies, and there is also a fishing-only broadcasting station, Tsuri Vision, a video streaming service delivering over 500 original programmes a year, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

📣 New article online !

Japan is becoming increasingly attractive for many foreign anglers. They come to catch both impressive fish and for the world-famous made-in-Japan fishing gear. However, for many foreigners, navigating the world of Japanese fishing can be tricky, especially if they don’t speak and read the language. Luckily, they’ve found in Ralph Nunez a seemingly endless source of reliable information on Japanese fish, fishing customs and tackle stores; he’s quickly becoming the go-to man for both foreign travelers and expats.

[Live from Japan]

In a country where, contrary to belief, there are a lot of pets, it’s important for some to celebrate with their favourite cats or dogs.

In the first days of New Year in Japan, it is customary to eat the osechi bentô and drink a soup called ozoni. Each year, this shop sells canine and feline versions of these traditional dishes for our furry friends.

📣 New article online !

I’m pretty sure that when people think about fishing, they imagine a waterfront, an exotic beach, a quiet pond in the countryside or even catching fish from a boat. Nobody, for instance, would associate central London or Paris with fishing. However, in Tokyo (and other Japanese big cities) you can do just that.

Tokyo has several artificial fishing ponds that are regularly visited by both amateurs and pros, and the two most popular spots are located smack in the centre of the metropolis: the Benkei Fishing Club is near the ultra-posh Hotel New Otani, while the Ichigaya Fish Centre (IFC) is next to Ichigaya Station on the JR Chuo and Sobu lines.

📣 New article online !

Japan is attracting millions of people from around the world thanks to its unique culture, delicious cuisine and spectacular nature. However, not many people know that Japan is also a fishing paradise. First of all, Japan’s diverse ecosystem provides an ideal environment for fishing. From freshwater mountain streams to oceanic waters, you’ll find an impressive variety of fish species. Locations, of course, play a central part in how much you are going to enjoy your outing, and Japan offers breathtaking locations for any kind of fishing. This is also because most Japanese anglers prioritize nature conservation. Their commitment to sustainable fishing ensures that future generations can continue to enjoy this angler’s paradise.

In other words, whether you are an experienced angler or a beginner, Japan promises unforgettable fishing adventures.

[Live from Japan]

In Japan, after someone’s passing, it is common to go through a buddhist ceremony and then proceed to a cremation. The remains of the deceased can be kept at home or put inside cemeteries’ funeral steles.

Sometimes some religious sites offer exactly the same ceremonies but for pets, just like this temple in Ôsaka where beloved pets’ souls are resting under memorial steles… sometimes watched over by stray cats.
