For this week’s we head to King’s Cross to welcome an old friend back to the roster; this is Sensible Music!
Started in the 70s, Sensible Music made its mark initially as a backline hire company. A multi-purpose recording studio and rehearsal facility was added in the 90s and has since hosted everyone from Amy Winehouse to Roger Waters and Whitney Houston. Now under exciting new ownership, the complex is poised to press on ever further.
Sensible Music’s main studio consists of a spacious control room and 2 booths, with a combined area of 45sq m. The control room was specifically designed to house the behemoth PMC BB5XBD’s that are soffit mounted into the back wall, and the studio’s SSL AWS948 console allows you to blend complex analogue and digital workflows. There’s a good array of vintage to modern outboard that includes 8 Neve 34128 pres along some great options from Ursa Major, chiswickreach, API and many more. The studio also offers a good selection of microphones as well as backline, guitars, keys, drums and more, details of which can all be found on their equipment page on our website.
To the left of the control room a sliding glass door gives you access to the main booth, a fantastic room for drums, percussion and vocals, and behind the control room sits a booth which can be used as a reamping room, or even as a separate suite for programming or writing.
If you need more space, or you want to record an orchestra or the whole band in one room, then you can turn to Studio 4 - a 93sq m rehearsal space with a 30ft apexed ceiling across the car park. Suitable for bands, orchestras, choreography and showcases, Studio 4 has 56 tie lines to the main control room as well as a live HD video feed, huge external shutter for load in/out, and zero noise limitations; making it the perfect size for full production rehearsals of any size.
