Gerald Rose was born in Hong Kong 1935. His father became a prisoner of war during the Second World War and Gerald, his sister and their mother were interned in a civilian camp. Returning to the UK after the War, Gerald studied at the Lowestoft School of Art and the Royal Academy. For his dozens of children’s books, Rose won the Kate Greenaway Medal in 1960 and the Premio Critici in Erba, Italy in 1979
