Back to the grindstone for Team Misfits!

After the glitz and glamour of the PGA’s and the BAFTA’s we’ve been getting right back to work with a big documentary film shoot in New York and LA.

Team Misfits are absolutely thrilled with the BAFTA win for SUPER/MAN on Sunday night. We hope this means more people will watch our doc about the actor and activist Christopher Reeve. It’s available on HBO MAX and CNN in America, on Sky / NOW TV in the UK, and on HBO max in most other countries.

Thank you to the community for this amazing recognition and honour.

We were honoured and humbled to be nominated alongside four other incredible documentaries, which we encourage everyone to watch. They are stunning films with incredible social impact in the world —

BLACK BOX DIARIES ()
An urgent and brave documentary that follows journalist Shiori Ito as she her own sexual assault, aiming to bring the prominent perpetrator to justice.

NO OTHER LAND (.film)
This defiant, audacious and vital documentary, made by a Palestinian-Israeli collective shows the destruction of the occupied West Bank’s Masafer Yatta by Israeli soldiers and the alliance which develops between the Palestinian activist Basel and Israeli journalist Yuval.

DAUGHTERS ()
A tender and heartwrenching film that tracks a unique fatherhood programme in a Washington, DC, jail – in which incarcerated fathers prepare for a special Daddy Daughter dance with their children.

Josh Greenbaum’s passionate and charming documentary follows comedian Will Ferrell and his close friend of 30-years, Harper Steele, as they embark on a cross-country road trip to process their relationship after Harper has come out as a trans woman.

We are over the moon that our SUPER/MAN film won the PGA Award for Outstanding Producers of a Documentary, at a star-studded ceremony in LA this past weekend. The Producers Guild Awards are voted on by 8500 working producers and previous winners of this award include NAVALNY, SUMMER OF SOUL, and MY OCTOPUS TEACHER so this is an incredibly prestigious win!

This film was financed and produced entirely independently alongside our friends and and the whole team are very happy to be honoured by the .

Big thanks to , , and for acquiring the film at Sundance and being such amazing partners in getting the film seen by the maximum number of people, all around the world.

We wanted to extend our gratitude to the entire production team of SUPER/MAN for their incomparable efforts on this project – as well as the many A-list celebs that we pestered all evening at the ceremony!

2024 is almost a wrap!

We wanted to summarise the year and, most importantly, let you know that Team Misfits has ended the year on a high by producing an even more ridiculous silly hat photo than last year... This monumental achievement is sure to cast a wide shadow over any other successes, but other highlights include:

* The magical Sundance premiere of SUPER/MAN: THE CHRISTOPHER REEVE STORY – including incredible & emotional audience reactions, powerful Q&A’s with Christopher Reeve’s three children, the film being acquired by Warner / DC and the following global theatrical release in 40+ countries and winning Six Critic’s Choice Documentary Awards.

* The addition of Ben Coren as our new Head of Scripted– marking the expansion of the fiction side of the business, with much more to come in 2025.

* Our new corporate partnership with Mediawan.

* The release of our film THE CONTESTANT – involving a huge press tour with billboards in Times Square.

* Having two Misfits films (THE CONTESTANT & SUPER/MAN) screening in UK cinemas simultaneously throughout the month of November.

* The delivery of our latest documentary LOVE AND RAGE: MUNROE BERGDORF alongside our partners at Universal – coming to screens across the world next year.

* Adele giving our SUPER/MAN film an impromptu shoutout during her residency in Las Vegas.

It’s been a hard year for many of us in the film and TV industry, but we feel grateful to have worked with so many amazing collaborators we admire, on projects we feel deeply passionate about, and in a spirit of joy and love.

We look forward to connecting with you all in 2025.

Misfits’ very own and are taking on the big apple next week at where they’ll be hosting a directing masterclass - ‘Emotion Over Information!’ on Monday 18th November.

If you’re in the city and want to hear from the directors of Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, McQueen, and Rising Phoenix then head to the link in our bio and grab yourself a ticket.

Some of team working on our new feature documentary ‘Black is Beautiful: The Kwame Brathwaite Story’ visited the for the opening of ‘As We Rise: Photography from the Black Atlantic’, an exhibition which features two of ’s pieces.

It was impressive and inspiring to see Kwame Brathwaite’s work presented on such a large scale.

It is such a thrill to have two films receive nominations simultaneously, with both screening across UK cinemas this month – to top it off!

We are very excited to announce our latest feature documentary, produced in collaboration with , about the life of trailblazing activist, model, author and broadcaster !

Directed by , produced by and , and executive produced by , this poignant and immersive film gives the audience a raw, intimate and hopeful look into Munroe’s world and the trans community as a whole. It shines a light on the vital activism that Munroe pioneers, through the prism of her own personal journey of change.

We look forward to showing you this wonderful film that amplifies this important story at the scale it deserves. Munroe and everyone have been fantastic collaborators, allowing the making of this highly personal and powerful film to be a joyous experience from start to finish.

We can’t wait to share the film with you all in the coming months!

It felt like a homecoming on Monday night as our SUPER/MAN documentary had its UK Premiere at the BFI London Film Festival.

We were blown away by the massive IMAX screen, the packed house, the emotional reactions from the audience and it was an extremely proud day for us at Misfits and everyone who worked on the film.

Thank you to for organising such an amazing event, and thank you to everyone who was able to attend.
