The Wildhearts release a brand new single / video, ‘Troubadour Moon’, from their forthcoming studio album, ‘Satanic Rites of The Wildhearts’, out on March 7th via Snakefarm.

The uplifting ‘Troubadour Moon’ is an explosion of anthemic goodness and packs a melodic punch, watch the video here:
https://youtu.be/KYlH9DsZ0Bc

“I was reading an interview with a well-known musician recently, and he was talking about how there aren’t any troubadours anymore – people who play music purely for the love of it. I thought it was an interesting observation, so I’ve addressed it here, along with the idea of being yourself and not being swayed by trend or fashion, by the latest thing. If you allow that to happen, there’s the danger that you’ll always be one step behind or in someone else’s shadow…” – Ginger Wildheart

“With the new ‘Satanic Rites…’ album reflecting both the spirit and the energy of the classic ‘Earth vs…’ debut, both musically and visually, it made sense for the video for ‘Troubadour Moon’ to contain a host of references – some very subtle and obscure – to the glorious early days of the band. Plus, acknowledging the past in this way will hopefully put a smile on the faces of longstanding fans, and underline the fact that those creating the videos, the artwork and the photos, all of the imagery, are true fans of the band with a passion for detail. And if anyone knows why there’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it nod to former Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan in the clip, then you really are a serious fan! Please take a bow!” - Dante Bonutto, Snakefarm

The creatively brilliant Ginger Wildheart is arguably amongst the UK’s best and most prolific songwriters, and his band, The Wildhearts, recently signed a worldwide deal with Snakefarm / Integral.

"The songs on ‘Satanic Rites…’ were written during a period of transition, from extremely negative to positive,” reflects Ginger. “I realised how much control I have over my mental health, and the songs came from that understanding. There’s everything here – catchy choruses, proper f**k-off riffs, anger, frustration, acceptance and revelation, with plenty of insane detours. The album starts pessimistic then ends up like ‘Ah, so I CAN turn my life around?’ It’s a hard rock album for people who love hard rock!”

‘Satanic Rites of The Wildhearts’, their 11th studio album, was produced by Jim Pinder ( Bring Me The Horizon, While She Sleeps, Bullet for My Valentine) and mixed by Jim Pinder & Carl Bown (Trivium, Machine Head, Bring Me The Horizon, While She Sleeps, Bullet For My Valentine), and the record is conceived as a belated follow-up to their classic debut, ‘Earth vs The Wildhearts’ (1993).

Along with the singles, ‘Failure Is The Mother Of Success’ and ‘Troubadour Moon’, the album features a further eight tracks, including glam stomper ‘I’ll Be Your Monster’ (featuring Shining / Emperor member Jørgen Munkeby on guest saxophone).

15 years ago, Rage Against The Machine went live on the BBC 5Live Breakfast. They cut the full broadcast when Ratm hit the correct lyrics but here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmPN8MPw2dk&t=16s

Aware that the song culminated with Zack de la Rocha yelling ‘f*** you I won’t do what you tell me’ a total of 16 times, the BBC warned the band to keep things clean. But, this request was totally ignored. Zach managed four refrains of the line, dropping the f-bomb each time, before producers managed to halt the broadcast.

Exasperated host the BBC host could be heard shouting, ‘Get rid of it!’ in the background, before telling listeners

Three days later 'Killing In The Name' became the UK's Christmas Number One breaking the dreary X factor monopoly.

100% of the proceeds the single were donated to Homeless Charities. Furthermore, the band promised to play a free show as a thank you to fans the following summer in Finsbury Park.

An honour to work on this and have a relationship with Ratm that started in 1992, and continues to this day.

As many people know, Geneva is a Killing Joke city (we wrote Eighties and much of Night Time there). When I scored Pink Floyd's 'Us and Them' back in 1994, it was 70% Dark Side and 30% The Wall.
For this special occasion, I will present the entire Dark Side of the Moon. I am grateful to the OSR and Antigel Festival for arranging this concert on the day Killing Joke: Official started which just happens to be my 65th birthday!" – Jaz Coleman (Official).

The Wildhearts release a brand new single, ‘Failure Is The Mother Of Success’, the first track to be revealed from their forthcoming studio album, ‘Satanic Rites of The Wildhearts’, out next spring via Snakefarm.

Watch the lyric video here https://youtu.be/a62YJ5k0ThE

“‘Failure Is The Mother Of Success’ is about getting back on your feet after things have gone wrong. There's an old saying, 'fall down three times, get up four’. It's about feeling like you're worth getting back up for, and that making mistakes is just an essential part of life, everyone does it.
At almost eight minutes long, it's pretty brave for the record company to pick it as a single; but it's a really good taster for the album and has everything any Wildhearts fan could want. I hope you absolutely love it!” – Ginger Wildheart

“To be honest, I really struggled to decide what the lead single should be. Whenever I was sent a new track, I thought, right, that’s the single! In fact, every song could have been. But then that’s The Wildhearts – never knowingly under-singled!
In the end, when I heard Ginger talk about ‘Failure…’, it became clear that this is the unofficial title track of the album, brilliantly encapsulating the triumph over adversity theme; the fact that the future remains unwritten, you just need to grasp both the nettle and the pen, possibly the other way round?!
if you love the fact, like I do, that Ginger can feature an album’s worth of song ideas in a single track, and do it seamlessly, then you’re in for a treat!” – Dante Bonutto, Snakefarm

26/11/2024

To celebrate Frank Black’s landmark solo album, Teenager Of The Year turning 30, 4AD release a one-time vinyl pressing on 17th January, to accompany a tour of North America plus Paris and London, where Frank Black and the original band will be performing the album in its entirety.

This special vinyl tour edition of Teenager Of The Year, has been remastered for the first time from its original analogue studio tapes. Sounding as essential as the day it was released, the limited 30th Anniversary Tour Edition is cut at 45 rpm for optimum playback and is being pressed on double gold vinyl. The album also comes in a gatefold sleeve with liner notes by both Frank Black and producer Eric Drew Feldman. A 24-bit digital version is being released on the same day.

Frank Black tells all about the making of Teenager Of The Year in a unique podcast with Marc Beaumount.

"Welcome to my 30th anniversary Teenager Of The Year podcast, where you may hear me pontificate on the mysteries and swim among the faded memories of my 2nd solo effort from 1994.”

Watch here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEzFNlhjPbc

Originally recorded amid a rich songwriting vein, just as the Pixies had been placed on hold, Frank Black’s ambitious double album Teenager Of The Year came out in May 1994, just one year after his fantastic self-titled solo debut. Recorded with scene legend Eric Drew Feldman (Captain Beefheart’s Magic Band, Pere Ubu, The Residents), Teenager Of The Year, is now widely regarded as the defining statement of his solo career and the best album the Pixies never made.

“Sometime in the early 80s, I'd have to look up the date, I matriculated high school. This school held an awards banquet for some of the departing students at the school. I received an award called the TEENAGER OF THE YEAR award; my brother received the same award the following year. Our award was a 50 dollar credit for textbooks, a TEENAGER OF THE YEAR medallion (my mother still has this), and also the banquet hall dinner, soup to nuts. My brother and I had no complaint about the award (it was given for being all-around-good-guy as best as we could determine). But for such a grand title to be given as TEENAGER OF THE YEAR, I felt the glory had not been amplified enough.

In 1993, I was doing “solo recording” sessions with Eric Drew Feldman in Los Angeles. We had settled on a core band with Nick Vincent and Lyle Workman, occasionally augmented by Joey Santiago and Moris Tepper. Though we had to change studios numerous times for actual forest fires and earthquakes, the whole process was such an addictive musical buffet that Eric and I couldn't stop. We did some vocals at a studio rumored to be owned by Sergio Mendes; in the control room was a wall of television screens broadcasting the brush fire which crept toward us. We eventually evacuated to someplace else. We never met Sergio but we saw him perform a few weeks later when we vacated to Las Vegas after the Northridge earthquake, which had trapped the TEENAGER OF THE YEAR tapes in a studio vault for some time. Our zeal plus empathy from our financiers, they safely observing our travails from London, was enough to keep the money flowing until Eric and I relented and declared “Consummatum est”.

We tried to make it grand. 22 in 62. I called it TEENAGER OF THE YEAR. It is 30 years old now, and the original band will perform the record at various venues in early 2025. 4AD has remastered the LP for a fresh printing. Enjoy.” Black Francis 2024 Meredith, New Hampshire.

Pitchfork placed Teenager Of The Year in their Top 100 albums of the 90’s saying “beneath its veneer lie the moments brilliant enough to rival any of the PIXIES’ 1990’s work, and Black’s greatest lyrical achievement.” The album is also included in the book “ 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die”, while The Quietus in 2014 said “Teenager Of The Year feels like a lost Pixies album in the way Ram feels like a lost Beatles album. It’s colossal, it teems with innovation.”

“Initially it was a 14-song album. It was mixed. Eric Idle was staying nearby. He kept telling me to change the songs around. Al (Clay)had to run off and go to his next project. We weren’t completely happy with what we had. The solution: record more songs. Eight more were born. Whole shebang was remixed by David Bianco. The day before we were to start the remix, the 1994 Northridge earthquake occurred. Charles, Jean (Charles’ first wife) and I escaped to Las Vegas, ate many shrimp cocktails, and we saw Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, and Sergio Mendes and Brazil ’99 perform. Sergio was especially good. After about five days we returned to the mixing studio and the deed was done.” Eric Drew Feldman.*

30 years ago today, November 22nd, 1994, Pearl Jam released their brilliant third full-length album, Vitalogy, through Epic Records. Vitalogy was first released on vinyl only, followed by a release on CD and cassette two weeks later on December 6th, 1994.

So many great songs, but here is the frenetic ‘Spin the Black Circle’ perfect for this fresh Friday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3oMcrqDn_4

‘Spin the Black Circle’ received the award for Best Hard Rock Performance it was the first Grammy Award Pearl Jam had ever won. During the band's acceptance speech, Eddie Vedder famously said, "I don't know what this means. I don't think it means anything. [...] Thanks, I guess.” - legend!

So many tales and if only they’d played the carnival-esque 'Bugs' on Top Of The Pops.. but that’s a story for another day.

An essential album by an unparalleled and exceptional band. An honour to have worked the PR for this album.

Have a great day.

On November 2nd Rage Against The Machine’s The Battle Of Los Angels turned 25 and it still sounds as fresh as the day it was released.

Preceding the release on September 11th 1999 Rage Against The Machine played their first UK gig in three years at a secret show at the Zodiac Club in Oxford; those of us lucky enough to attend saw the band perform the following new songs live for the first time ever; 'Guerrilla Radio', 'Sleep Now in the Fire', 'Born Of A Broken Man' and 'War Within A Breath'.

Rage's third album shows why their legacy endures and here is the legendary video for 'Sleep Now In The Fire': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kl4wkIPiTcY

It was an absolute honour to do their press for this album and all their other albums, and still call them friends over 3 decades later.

Today, October 28th, Shawn Smith of the best artists I’ve ever represented (and certainly one of the most underrated), would of turned 60.

Tragically Shawn passed away on April 3rd, 2019, leaving an incredible catalogue of music, including BRAD with Stone Gossard (Pearl Jam), Satchel and Pigeonhed, plus phenomenal solo work, and collaborations with The Twilight Singers, Malfunkshun, and more.

Shawn made so many wonderful songs (Buttercup, Battleflag, the list goes on) but today’s choice is ‘Wrapped In My Memory’ - a song that never fails to give me a lump in my throat:

It was an honour and privilege to call Shawn a good friend.

Miss you

21/10/2024

The Wildhearts are proud to announce that their new studio album, ‘Satanic Rites Of The Wildhearts’, will be released in spring 2025.

The creatively brilliant Ginger Wildheart is arguably amongst the UK’s best and most prolific songwriters, and his band, The Wildhearts, have just signed a worldwide deal with Snakefarm / Integral.

"The songs were written during a period of transition, from extremely negative to positive. I realised how much control I have over my mental health, and the songs came from that understanding. There’s everything here – catchy choruses, proper f**k-off riffs, anger, frustration, acceptance and revelation, with plenty of insane detours. The album starts pessimistic and ends up like ‘Ah, so I CAN turn my life around?’
Sometimes you have to start from the very bottom, your darkest point. We have more control over our emotions than we think. We control the outcome by how we respond. Once I started learning that, the songs came pi***ng out. It’s a hard rock album for people who actually love hard rock!
We’ll be taking a full evening’s entertainment on tour, kicking off with party-punks DIRT BOX DISCO, going to rock ‘n’ roll church with Jim Jones and the Righteous Mind and being flayed alive with The Wildhearts. The party starts when the doors open, so get a buzz on and get down early.
Come join the Wildhearts’ community gathering. We guarantee you’ll leave with the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll firmly restored.” – Ginger Wildheart

‘Satanic Rites Of The Wildhearts’ was produced by Jim Pinder (Bring Me The Horizon , Lotus Eater, While She Sleeps, Bullet for My Valentine) and mixed by Jim Pinder and Carl Bown (Trivium, Machine Head, While She Sleeps, Bullet For My Valentine, Bring Me The Horizon, While She Sleeps).

“The first album I A&R’d was ‘Earth vs The Wildhearts’. What a magnificent, game-changing record! What a baptism of fire!! Very quickly, it became clear what a rare talent Ginger was, and is; to my mind, one of the great British songwriters of the past 30 years, and this new record underlines that point.
The conversation here was simple – let’s rejoin forces, let’s complete the circle, with an album forged in the spirit of ‘Earth vs…’, both in terms of the music and the overall intent, and let’s reference the title and that memorable front cover photo, too.
Which is what we have; the start of an exciting new chapter in the story of a band who have always been defined by the desire of one man to write songs that soundtrack our lives; songs where – to quote Wildhearts fave ‘Nita Nito’ – rules do not apply.” – Dante Bonutto, Snakefarm

To pre-order / pre save ‘Satanic Rites Of The Wildhearts’ go to: https://thewildhearts.tmstor.es/

‘Satanic Rites Of The Wildhearts’ will be available on ltd coloured vinyl LP, CD with exclusive bonus track and cassette. There is also an album test pressing (limited to 50, customised & signed by Ginger). Plus, a signed bonus CD EP, with all bundle offers.

To celebrate this release, The Wildhearts will be playing 8 headline UK shows in March, starting on March 7th at the Leadmill in Sheffield and concluding at the 1865 in Southampton on 16th March.

For three decades, The Wildhearts have remained at the forefront of the UK rock scene, and their incendiary shows have cemented their reputation and legacy as one of the best band’s their homeland has produced, so miss these shows at your peril.

THE SILVERLITES featuring members of R.E.M. The Black Crowes and Screaming Trees announce debut album.

On November 15th The Silverlites proudly release their self-titled debut album on Sunyata Records distributed by Sony Music Entertainment This 12 song debut references the great rock bands and songwriters of the classic era, while still sounding fresh and new for modern times.

The Silverlites are a veritable supergroup made up of 4 renowned songwriters with 4 distinct backgrounds. The quartet includes Peter Buck (R.E.M.), Rich Robinson (The Black Crowes), Barrett Martin (Screaming Trees and Mad Season) and Joseph Arthur, a singer-songwriter who was first discovered by Peter Gabriel

“The Silverlites have a unique ability to write memorable songs, which captures the mood and feel of the classic songwriter bands of the past. At the same time, our songs sound fresh and contemporary. I honestly think that between the 4 of us, we’ve written so many good songs in our respective bands, that we have developed a collective 6th sense as to what a great song should sound like.” - BBarret Martin

The Silverlites initial spark happened in 2015, when Barrett and Rich played together in the backing band for a tribute to Led Zeppelinguitarist, Jimmy Page. 4 years later, in 2019, Rich called Barrett to see if he was interested in assembling a new band that could create equally adventurous music. That’s when Barrett called Peter Buck, a long time friend and collaborator, and Peter called Joseph Arthur, whom Peter had also worked with. The Silverlites debut album was recorded across the pandemic years between 2019-2021 in a series of recording stages.

It began with Barrett recording Rich and Peter in a hotel room in Nashville, when they took out their acoustic guitars to write the initial songs. Barrett literally ran down to the local music store, bought a portable recording rig, set it up in the hotel room, and started recording these initial basic tracks. The following year, in 2020, the band recorded overdubs and vocal arrangements from the Nashville sessions, and they also recorded a few more new songs at Jack Endinos studio in Seattle, WA. Barrett then collected, organized, and edited all the final overdubs and prepared 18 songs for mixing.

Final mixing happened in New York City in the summer of 2021 with Barrett, Joe, and mixing engineer Daniel Sanint. When it came time to sequence this huge initial offering, the band had differing opinions, so Barrett sent the mixes to his former bandmate, Mark Lanegan singer of the Screaming Trees. Mark loved the songs so much that he offered to create the sequence you now hear, which includes the 12 song album, and a 6 song EP.

The album was delayed for release because of everyone’s incredibly busy touring schedules post-pandemic, but now the album is ready to be heard by everyone. The band has decided to release 2 singles in early October and early November, and then the full album release on November 15th, followed by the additional 6 song EP in March of 2025.

The Silverlites first single, “Don’t Go, Don’t Stay,” is available now on all digital platforms around the world.
