Here's another photo from Mark Baigent's splendid (and splendid-looking) new CD - he's recording Rutland Boughton's 'Fairy-led' with James Gilchrist and Fiona Mitchell on clarinet. The piece is as delightful as their expressions, and as an added inducement, postage is now free, worldwide, for all CDs at www.oboeclassics.com

This lovely album is now out at last, in a new plastic-free cover. It looks and sounds splendid. Listening again to check the CD pressing, I am struck how Mark Baigent and James Gilchrist make each work unique, and what a satisfying and moving collection this is. For me, the new presentation of the Vaughan Williams Blake Songs is very effective. Details at www.oboeclassics.com

Here's a fascinating photo of Paul Taffanel's group, founded in 1879. They are probably playing the Gounod Petite Symphonie, written for them in 1895. The naming of the players is confusing - they seem to have confused clarinets with oboes (who knew?). That's Louis Bas and Louis Bleuzet on the right. Date? Bas was born in 1863, so probably early 20th Century. There's another photo of him athttps://www.oboeclassics.com/digital/Archive_France2_details.pdf Geoffrey Burgess

1,331 streams in 28 days on Spotify? This is an unusual record for a track that's been around for a while. Excited, I checked it out and found that it has got on to a well-used playlist, 'Klassische Musik zum Einschlafen'. I had to look up that last word - it means 'fall asleep'.

Can contemporary oboe music be funny? Of course, but in this piece I've added an imaginary commentary. It entertained the player, Paul Goodey-Avedisyan; I hope it entertains you!
