For example:
Q. When do I need to apply for a grace period?
A. If you are struggling to meet your hours in the final year of your cycle, you can apply for a grace period (an additional 56 days) during the final six months of your cycle (this is from 1 February for the wider dental team.) It will take effect from 1 August if it is granted. The next CPD cycle must then begin as normal despite this. If you do not meet the requirements by the end of the 56 days, you will be removed from the register.

Helping patients with their dental phobias

Amy Louise Scarbro, 28, is a qualified dental nurse from Southampton who is passionate about helping patients with dental phobias:

'I'm passionate about people who have dental phobias because I have one myself and I know how bad things can get if decayed teeth are left untreated. I want to show people how to help prevent treatment from being needed through teaching them excellent oral hygiene and by encouraging people to come to their routine examinations.'

GDC ANNUAL RENEWAL IS OPEN
On 10 June the General Dental Council (GDC) opened the annual renewal period for dental care professionals (DCPs).

This crucial process ensures that DCPs remain on the UK register and continue to provide essential dental care to patients.

To streamline the renewal process, the GDC has outlined three straightforward steps for DCPs to complete by the respective deadlines:

*Pay the Annual Retention Fee (ARF) of £96 by 31 July

*Indemnity cover: Ensure indemnity cover is in place, or will be, by 31 July

*Complete a CPD statement by 28 August: DCPs must check they have completed the minimum number of CPD hours for their cycle and at least ten CPD hours within the last two years.
