Jazz Matters Has Evolved

Jazz Matters is coming back.
After a long break, I’m getting ready to start publishing new programmes again — but Jazz Matters has evolved.

The focus is clearer: contemporary jazz and nu-jazz remain at the heart of what I do, with new programmes, interviews, playlists, writing, and discoveries all finding a permanent home here on the Jazz Matters website.

NuDirections will also return, giving me somewhere to explore the wider music that catches my ear beyond jazz.

There is plenty more to come, but for now I simply wanted to say: Jazz Matters is moving again.

And I’m very pleased to be back.

NuDirections is returning.
My musical ear has always travelled wide and deep, and I have missed having a place where I can follow it without being restricted by genre.
NuDirections is where I will share whatever has caught my attention at that particular moment — familiar, unexpected, adventurous or challenging.
You may not always know where it is heading — and neither will I.

Back in the Studio
After a long period of preparation, I’m back in the studio recording new Jazz Matters shows and music selections.

At the same time, I’m continuing to build and prepare the Jazz Matters website for launch. It has taken considerably longer than I first expected, but I want to make sure the foundations are right before everything gets properly underway.

In this new JM Studio Notes entry, I share a little about returning to the studio, the work still underway behind the scenes, and how it feels to be moving forward again.

Building the Jazz Matters Library

I have been spending a great deal of time behind the scenes, uploading podcasts and gradually filling the Jazz Matters website.
It is more than simply transferring old programmes from one place to another. I am building a clear and permanent home where the music, playlists, show notes and stories surrounding Jazz Matters can sit together and be easier to explore.

My latest JM Studio Notes entry explains what I have been working on as I prepare the website for its launch.

A new chapter is beginning for Jazz Matters.

As I move towards the Jazz Matters relaunch on Thursday, 16 July 2026, I have been reshaping the website, tightening the structure, and giving Jazz Matters a clearer direction.

The latest JM Studio Notes entry, “A New Chapter Begins,” is about that process. Not a complete reinvention, but a careful step forward: a better home for the music, the writing, the shows, and the deeper listening that sits at the centre of Jazz Matters.

Jazz Matters lives at www.jazzmatters.world, and that is where the fuller note will sit.

Jazz Matters has been quiet for some time — and I think it is important to explain why before I begin talking about its return.

During that period, I moved home, began putting together a new studio and lost my father. I needed to step back and deal with life properly rather than continue when I could not give Jazz Matters the time and attention it deserved.

The time away also gave me space to reconsider its directionJ and rebuild the project around the music, writing and conversations that matter most to me.

In my first new JM Studio Notes, I share a little more about the silence and what comes next.

The full Jazz Matters relaunch takes place on Thursday 16 July 2026.
