Spirit and Roots returns to the airwaves FRIDAY 16th June 7-9pm (GMT) with two very special guests, Alan Tyler and Catherine Ashby.

It’s no exaggeration to say that Alan Tyler has probably done more than just about anyone in the UK to keep the torch of americana music burning since the early ’90s.

As well as hosting the seminal monthly music club, ‘Come Down And Meet The Folks’, which has been at the heart of the capital's scene for over twenty years, Alan's own songwriting and records have won him plaudits far and wide.

As lead singer of English country-rockers, The Rockingbirds, Alan hit the pop charts in the early 90s. Since then he has gone on to have a deeply fruitful solo career peaking with his most recent record, “Made In Middlesex”.

Catherine Ashby has been described as "Laurel Canyon meets the English hills with a stop-off in Nashville on the way."

In 2019 she was awarded a scholarship to perform at The Folk Alliance International Festival in Montreal Canada. And from there she made her way down to Nashville where she began a fruitful collaboration with Grammy award winning producer Jamie Tate.

Catherine has recently released a remastered version of her self-produced debut album 'King of my Sky' to celebrate 10 years since its initial creation. A collection of Catherine's earliest songs, this album is dedicated to her best friend Ben King who the title track is written about & for.

Spirit and Roots returns to the airwaves FRIDAY 20th January 7-9pm (GMT) with two very special guests, Peter Doolan and Milton Hide.

Peter Doolan is a singer songwriter and poet from Co. Tipperary, and now based in London. His work has been described as lyrically driven, punk-infused and ‘unashamed to prod the nerve of the listener’.

Peter's album The Rise & Fall of Western Civilisation, Modern Politics & Tipperary Hurling Pts 1 & 2 was one of the highlights of 2022.

Milton Hide (AKA husband and wife Jim and Josie Tipler), who live at the foot of the Long Man of Wilmington hill figure in East Sussex, are set to release their 2nd full album.

The Holloway aims to capture the atmosphere of an acoustic band playing right in front of you. Just like every Milton Hide performance, these original self-penned songs are are extremely varied in style and content - from traditional-sounding ballads to contemporary gently-picked emotive songs and political satire.
