Universally recognised and loved as one of history’s greatest operas, Giacomo Puccini’s ‘La Bohème’ continues to delight audiences the world over. Premiered in Turin on 1 February 1893 at the Teatro Regio, conducted by the legendary Arturio Toscanini, it has become one of the most frequently performed and recorded of all operas.

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of Puccini’s death on 29 November, we are releasing two magnificent new deluxe versions of this original 1973 classic of the gramophone era. This exclusive boxed set is crafted from linen, and houses a newly commissioned book, featuring an exclusive article from internationally renowned writer Roger Pines, individual features on Pavarotti, Freni and Karajan, a personal article from Decca tenor Freddie De Tommaso, facsimiles from the original 1973 booklet (including the complete libretto), original session photos and recently unearthed shots, and an exclusive ‘La boheme’ collectible poster.

For three decades, Joan Sutherland reigned supreme, earning the title ‘La Stupenda’.

Throughout 2024 and into 2025, the eve of her centenary, Decca will release three box sets incorporating Sutherland’s entire discography with the company, also including recordings made for EMI.

The first collection, out now, comprises her complete recitals and oratorio recordings, including her first studio recording from 1954 and four recitals from 1958, released on Decca for the very first time.
