After a breakthrough year for 1185 Films in 2023, Nick Franco and our growing team (most recently, Stephen Arnell, CHRIS COWEY) are pushing ahead with bold expansion plans for 2024, including more programme-making and co-productions, as well as developing our production and post-production services at our state-of-the-art studio and facilities house in Farringdon, London (recent clients include ITV, Euston Films and Monumental).

As well as post-facilitating some top TV series and films through our cutting rooms (including ITV's Grace, The Bay and BBC’s Nightsleeper), we have completed several exciting new films with post - sound, VFX, grading, finishing and delivery - which will be released next year.

As promised last week, we are happy to reveal a short behind-the-scenes VFX breakdown video from the feature film "Within Sand" (directed by Moe Alatawi and produced by Al Sarid Films).

Our Head of VFX, Simon Wilkinson, shares thoughts on the project he worked on alongside Nick Franco and Martin Mayer: "The original footage posed a challenge as it was filmed with two strip lights attached to the fire pit frame. These lights were initially designed to replicate the ambient glow of the fire, demanding thorough cleanup before seamlessly integrating the fire element. The process involved reconstructing the wooden frame & precisely repainting elements such as the rope, camel, gun and fire pit. Additionally, a substantial portion of the background had to be replaced. Given the organic nature of the scene, this required an extensive number of tracking points and meticulous frame-by-frame refinement."

The building housing our post-production facility in Hatton Garden, London's famous jeweller quarter, has a much older history than we realised. "How Did Our Garden Grow? The History of Hatton Garden" by Vivian Watson FGA revealed this surprising fact. Who would have thought that our , , and hub is steeped in such an intriguing past?

We are pleased to announce The 4th Biennale D'Autun will be opening at Le Cellier du Chapitre in Autun tomorrow, the 15th of July, 2023. The exhibition will run until Thursday, the 3rd of August 2023, giving visitors plenty of time to enjoy the artwork.

One of the featured artists, , will present two new works she has been developing since 2020. The first is a series called Ritual Garment (2020 - 2022), which consists of nine paintings. The second is her most recent film; Something is Brewing in the Pond (2023).

If you're interested in attending, the exhibition's opening hours are from Monday to Sunday, 11 am to 7 pm. The venue, Le Cellier du Chapitre, is located at Place du Terreau, Autun, France (71400). Enjoy the exhibition!

1185 Films is thrilled to share that we're in the beautiful city of Cannes, attending this year's Cannes Film Festival and launching a new suite of film finance options for film producers.

Over the years, we have helped producers with their projects to finish and screen their work. This help was limited to deferred fees for post-production work.

We wanted to assist producers further and make the whole process more accessible, and now we can offer a full range of financial and funding support to help make finance flow smoothly. We can discuss a selection of film funding solutions with you to progress toward a funding support package that is best for your production.

For filmmakers, we offer the following:
- Tax break - we can cashflow your tax break
- Gap Funding - Usually secured against Minimum guarantee
- Equity - Straight investment into the film with a percentage of the revenue being returned to the investor.
- We can also help set up the tax break element of the film in advance of funding if required

For investors, we have a range of SEIS and EIS products.

Adam Carr's accompanying film part Night of the Hunter, part Robinson in Space, takes us along the narrow ways and rivers star fill and bible-black litter glittering like supernovae.

Contemplative meditation on marginalised “There are corners of this water known only to itself”. In the still black waters of My Names Is Swan, the audience watches its reflection.

The celebrated fine artist Kalliopi Lemos approached 1185 Films to produce her art film ‘Something is Brewing in the Pond’, a meditation on circular time, nature and spirituality. The film draws from the work of Claude Levi-Strauss and argues that the ritual is a basic human necessity.

The film was written and directed by Kalliopi Lemos, and produced by Nick Franco at 1185 Films. Lemos’s artworks ‘Ritual Garments’ were incorporated as the costumes for the performers.
