"... but what about art and creativity? Arts education in schools has been cut to shreds. No paint, no materials, no status, no nothing.

Last summer, Labour committed to make creative education compulsory to the age of 16. Now we need some detail to back that up. Let’s recognise the potential of all the arts to nurture self-esteem and creative expression in young people, and help them find their voice in the world. High-quality arts education is indispensable. ... "

Letters: Investment in young people’s creativity after years of cuts will pay off for society as a whole, writes Matt Bell

I work at an after-school club at a primary school. They have (at least) 2 upright pianos, and 2 halls; 1 bigger than the other, where I watched the end of year production in July.

What if (a) staff member(s) performed on said piano(s) at a concert, and people (parents...) were charged a set ticket fee to attend?

What if part of that money (minus agreed fees for performers) was used by the school to buy resources, go on trips, pay for visiting external professionals, a piano tuner, ...?

What if (parents) were free to Pay What They Could Afford to keep access open and equal?

What if concerts were programmed termly, monthly, fortnightly or weekly?

What if we could commission a composer to write a piece for that school for those performers?

What if music students from a local university performed?

What if professional musicians performed?
