A British MP has saved the life of a female Afghan politician who is an outspoken critic of the Taliban by helping to launch a daring night time rescue to get her on a plane before all the doors slammed shut.
Mum of five Shukria Barakzai landed in the UK last week after the MP for Oldham East and Saddleworth Debbie Abrahams helped orchestrate an extraordinary rescue mission 'like something out of a Hollywood movie' as militants hunted her down.
Shukria, one of the country's most high profile feminists, was on the list of British evacuees, but was unable to contact anyone to help her, when thousands surged to the airport leading her flight to be abandoned.
Last night, from a hotel where she is quarantining for 10 days Shukria, who survived a su***de bomb attack by the Taliban on her car in 2014, said: “I believe Debbie and her team saved my life.
“I was on one of the last flights out.
“The Taliban were hunting for me. They wanted to vanish me. I am grateful to have got out but it is very bitter sweet as so many have been left behind. It was like something out of a Hollywood movie. But I'm traumatised.” Her moving interview with our team, where she reveals how, like thousands, the trauma of leaving her life behind is in today's Sun on Sunday.

Two front pages today in OK! Magazine and also the Daily Mirror, sharing the amazing story of Johnson Beharry VC with millions. Johnson saved the lives of his colleagues while serving in Iraq, driving them out of a kill zone despite being hit by a rocket propelled grenada, shattering his skull and damaging his brain. Somehow despite being on the brink of death he drove his colleagues to safety before falling into a coma. Now he reveals his beautiful family has healed him from the trauma of his terrible injuries. And his life is being made into a Hollywood film, with John Bodega and David John Washington tipped to play him in an epic that follows in the footsteps of Saving Private Ryan. A true hero.
