Highly recommended jungle 4 tracker from FFF. My personal faves are the B side tracks, intense darkside rave bangers. Test-press totally went *off* at the recent Headfuk party :)

Never underestimate the power of the humble delay in mixing / production. Not 'echoing with feedback' send and return, just literally shifting a track in time very small amounts can make a lot of difference.
In this case, the fundamental thud layer of a kick was shifted away from the dryer attack portion, it sounded like an EQ - but without any EQ. All of a sudden the attack and the sustain portions of the kick were distinct from one another and yet felt more like a cohesive whole. The depth of the fundamental was revealed and sounded huge. I could have added a 5dB low shelf to that thump, taking up loads of headroom - and it still wouldn't have done what this simple delay has done.
Same with shifting basslines relative to kicks, shifting hats and snares to slightly influence feel of groove and finding a better pocket for each sound to live. Things can feel more lively and natural when peaks are not all sitting directly on top of each other. Also, 'background' elements can sound slightly deeper in the picture when offset fractions.
(... actually I was a little excited when I took the example photo 😃 - I only really moved the thud 8ms in this mix. )

😎 - really appreciate this lovely comment from FFF - Triple Times F. Always a pleasure.

Really proud to have worked on mastering this amazing album for The state51 Conspiracy and Senyawa. Really beautiful presentation as well, as usual for State 51 projects. Thanks so much for the copy! It's gorgeous.

This project was an absolute joy. Emika wanted a vivid, dreamlike, holographic sound quality - which made me think carefully about my whole mastering approach. I selected tools specifically for that kind of presentation. I'm really pleased with how it turned out - can't wait to hear the final pressing of the LP.

My new album HAZE. Enjoy listening. Out now on all platforms.

Really happy to have been involved mastering this amazing and unique project. Powerful and spiritual experimental noise band from Indonesia.

announce new album, Vajranala - out on 03.05.24 via state51 Records

Vajranala is an exercise in understanding the root of the power (knowledge) discussed in their 2021 release Alkisah. When it comes to ‘power’, says Senyawa vocalist Rully Shabara, “people will normally think of someone political, but I don’t think that’s the case. The origin of power goes deeper than that.” It’s the shamans, he says, who were the first possessors of power: “If you’re in a village, if you’re considered to have the knowledge to connect people with the realm of the gods, then you will have power before the leader. It’s very fundamental to explore this.”

Thrilled to have worked with da Googie (solo project of Deb Googe; of My Bloody Valentine / Thurston Moore) and Too Many Things (Marion Andrau and Jem Doulton) on this wonderful split 12" release. And subsequently with da Googie again for their Valentines Day* special 'Kiss Me You Fool'. 🩷💙

Ah yes, very fond memories of working on this. Each side of the record is its own unique world to get drawn into. Machine generative patterns becoming melodic ambient lifeforms as they're interpreted through the physical world. Flip it over and feel the inverse world where those recordings are pixelated and fragmented into the shadowy techno-scape.
I truly love this record!

Music appreciation post: It’s 1 yr since we released this beautiful EP I made together with Paul Frick called In Parallel. I created synth patterns using my Chaos Star technique and Paul then used the midi files which he put into a special vibraphone that played them by itself, he then added more piano parts and edits. Our friend CNCPT remixed all of the tracks with his signature drum styles, he’s an amazing drummer and producer, he glitched them out and turned them into our favourite kinds of melodic Berlin Electro+Techno. I discovered CNCPT many years ago via a 12” from Hardwax called 00.1 (Brenda Records) The artwork for In Parallel is also a self-generative piece created by Matthew Hughes who I discovered a few years ago via Instagram and fell in love with all of his visual experiments. We made great sounding pink vinyl with an independent pressing plant we love here in Germany called Duophonic who made an amazing sounding cut. Mastered by my longtime engineer in London Hue Jah Fink. Making records with great people is the thing I love the most about running a label. Hope you enjoyed this detailed post and the music. Support us by grabbing a copy via bandcamp with a 25% discount. Use the code 'parallel1'. You also get the midi files+scores included in the release. Links and tags are below..

Thrill(er)ed to be involved in the return of Horror Boogie Records with this quadruple bill of terrifying tubbyness from Obese.

Fresh off the back of the much-delayed comeback compilation, we're back in business and excited to follow up with a full EP by the genius that is Nick Ronin under his Obese alias. He has been dropping

Imperial Blue Film - The UK-Ugandan feature film I did the sound post production for has had some POSITIVE things said about it by Mark Kermode, as well as having an interview feature on Times Radio with Mariella Frostrup and a glowing review by Britflix.

It's available to watch now for UK viewers on iTunes, Skystore and Amazon, and I'm really proud of what we all achieved under enormous stress and constraint. :)

Mark and Simon review the week's films. Plus Ralph Fiennes on his new film, The Dig.
