Youth Film Classes start back from September, with a brand new theme for students to get their teeth into.

For the autumn term, we’re exploring Finishing Touches, a look at how different media, effects and composition can shape a film in post-production.

We’re looking forward to lots of workshop activity on sound, effects, editing, grading, title sequences and even more.

The Summer Shoots are underway, the cast and crews are ready to roll and have called Action on their 2024 summer film productions!

This summer, Sparks Film School students taking part in the annual Summer Shoots are busy making their own films inspired by 2024’s theme of The Element of Surprise. In their film crews, they are exploring lots of different creative and technical conventions including plot twists and jump cuts to produce their own unique and surprising films.

For this autumn term’s filmmaking classes, we’re excited to introduce and explore a brand new theme – Finishing Touches!

In the quest for cinematic glory, what happens on set is only half the battle. This term, we’re looking at what happens next, as we explore all the finishing touches needed to take a bundle of footage and turn it into a masterpiece!

Every term at Sparks Film School’s filmmaking classes, young film students explore a different creative theme, which helps us to introduce a wide variety of different filmmaking techniques and styles, so that over time, filmmakers develop a well-rounded knowledge, understanding and awareness of different filmmaking practices.

Media subjects, historically derided as ‘low-value’, are now considered vital to UK’s £108bn creative industries, says new research by the British Academy.

A new report by the British Academy outlines the impact and the appeal of Media courses within Higher Education, confirming that, “Media, Screen, Journalism and Communication Studies equips graduates with the critical and creative skills needed for the UK economy.”

A big “hello” and “welcome back” to all the term time filmmaking students joining us for the summer term!

This term is action-packed, with production-focussed masterclasses and the annual Camera Games challenge, where students are tasked to produce a film representing their best work and bringing together all their learning so far.

Our teams are all raring to go and we’re so excited to welcome you all to the Summer Term!

Wow, what a fantastic weekend we had at this year’s Sparks Annual Conference!

Every year, the Heads of Sparks Film Schools gather together to share updates from across the country, take part in CPD activities and set their intentions for the future.

It was lovely to see everyone, share news and talk all things film education!

It was a brilliant day, with some great training sessions. Thanks so much to , Gary from , , Killian from PEAK and for being a part of it and to for being such great hosts and supporters for yet another year!
