Kaduna State Community and Social Development Agency Unveils 2024 Achievements

The Kaduna State Community and Social Development Agency (KADCDA) today held a press briefing to present its 2024 Compendium of Reports and Pictorial Achievements under the "Uba Sani CARES" program. Led by the General Manager, Dr. Muhammed Mu'azu Mukaddas, the agency highlighted remarkable milestones achieved across the state’s 23 local government areas.

The program, designed to expand access to livelihoods, provide safety nets for the poor, and empower vulnerable groups, executed 177 micro-projects between April and August 2024, with a focus on education, health, water, and sanitation.

Key Achievements

Education:

Renovated 77 blocks of classrooms across 77 communities.

Impacted 90,823 students statewide.

Health:

Renovated and equipped 13 Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities.

Benefited 12,498 residents, reducing maternal and infant mortality rates significantly.

Water:

Drilled 81 motorized boreholes in 81 communities.

Provided potable water to over 92,804 community members.

Empowering Vulnerable Groups:

Supported 5,229 vulnerable individuals with mobility aids and skill acquisition tools.

Engaged 5,112 beneficiaries, including women and youth, in Labour-Intensive Public Workfare (LIPW) projects.

Additionally, 1,363 Community Project Management Committee members were trained to sustain and manage these projects using a Community-Driven Development (CDD) approach.

Dr. Mukaddas attributed these achievements to the visionary leadership of Governor Uba Sani, whose commitment to good governance and social justice continues to inspire progress across Kaduna State.

Tragedy Strikes Borno State University: Two Students Killed in Road Accident

Borno State University (BOSU) was plunged into mourning following a tragic accident along the Maiduguri-Damaturu road on Wednesday evening, claiming the lives of two students. The accident occurred in Jimtilo when a Dangote truck, reportedly speeding, lost control and crashed into a BOSU bus carrying students returning home after semester exams.

The deceased include a final-year male student who had graduated earlier that day and a 200-level female student. Several other students on the bus sustained injuries, with some reported to be in critical condition.

BOSU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Babagana Gutti, alongside other university officials, facilitated the immediate evacuation of the victims to Umaru Shehu Hospital and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH). The hospitals witnessed intense activity as medical personnel worked tirelessly to stabilize the injured.

In an extraordinary show of solidarity, students from BOSU arrived in a bus to donate blood, contributing to the life-saving efforts. The Vice-Chancellor, senior university staff, and even members of the Borno State Government, including the Head of Service, Barrister Malam Fannami, were present through the night to support the victims.

The two deceased students will be laid to rest on Thursday, leaving a heartbroken university community. This tragic event highlights the urgent need for stricter road safety measures and vehicle maintenance to prevent further loss of lives.
