🏆We’re thrilled to announce the shortlist for the inaugural Global Black Women’s Non-Fiction Manuscript Prize, a groundbreaking initiative honouring the intellectual and literary brilliance of Black women worldwide.
🌟The five (5) shortlisted writers were selected from an exceptional longlist of nine (9) spanning four (4) continents - Africa, Europe, and the Americas – a testament to the enormous talent that exists among Black women thinkers globally. Exploring an incredible array of themes, these shortlisted writers shine a spotlight on the complexity and richness of Black critical thought, from deeply affecting personal narratives on mental health and resilience, spirituality and the cosmos, art, and environmentalism, to eye-opening explorative pieces that take us from the world of Black beauty and the fashion industry, to unpacking the race and class politics of food. Each manuscript showcases the profound and multi-versed voices of Black women who are reshaping the world of non-fiction, pushing boundaries, and sparking essential conversations.

This workshop is part of our mission to increase Black women's participation in the nonfiction space, alongside our African Women’s Non-Fiction Writing Workshop and the Global Black Women’s Non-Fiction Manuscript Prize. Participants will develop essential skills and techniques to become excellent editors. Under Ellah's expert guidance, participants will enhance their editing abilities and complete the program by editing a final essay for publication in TABOO, an anthology by Cassava Republic Press.

The winner gets will secure a publishing contract with Cassava Republic Press and a $20,000 advance and publishing contract. In addition, the two runners-up will each be receive a $5000 advance and a publishing deal.
