Taylor Russell in the new Loewe SS25 Campaign by David. Photographed ‘en plein air’ in the countryside of Tavertet, in the area of Collsacabra in Catalonia, in quite an emotional scenario, the images highlight, in painterly colour, the enduring association of LOEWE with the natural world, and its connection to Spain, its land of origin. In the tenth year of Jonathan Anderson’s tenure, the campaign goes back to the geographic roots of the brand and to the photographic language that highlighted an almost pagan connection with the forces of nature, which was characteristic of Anderson’s beginnings. A longing for nature in its elemental state is part of the LOEWE ethos.

“We travelled to Dovile’s hometown in Lithuania, Kaunas, and just shot in these unreal places. One location was this old bar, which the owner has helmed for decades. She was serving homemade food and giving us shots of vodka, which I couldn’t drink because I was shooting! It felt like I was in a Rainer Werner Fassbinder movie — it was so cinematic, almost like time-travelling. Also since we were in Dovile’s hometown, meeting her parents and the like, it was a story that just felt really organic, personal and raw. And funnily enough, Lithuania really reminds me of where I grew up. It’s kind of like a mix of Iceland and Sweden, which really enhanced that personal feeling.

Shooting in the Lithuanian forest, I was really reminded of the fact that the banshees Séan was inspired by are almost like sisters to Swedish folkloric creatures — ‘huldra’ – who are these female forest creatures that are dangerous, seductive, playful and primal, but contain a lot of rage. That really came out in the bigger pieces, especially in the context we were in. It was like we were playing with these different characters — it wasn’t just Noomi on a fashion shoot.”

‘A Radical act of Restraint’ @loewe @jonathan.anderson Loewe SS25 Menswear fashion show was held on June 22 at La Garde Républicaine, Paris Show notes: The show unfolds around a group of objects created by some of the most singular artistic voices of the 20th century. The seemingly disparate assembly is an exercise in curatorial subjectivity and narrative association. It channels Susan Sontag’s call for an ‘erotics of art’, privileging sensual pleasure over interpretation. Peter Hujar, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Carlo Scarpa and Paul Thek are united by their fierce adherence to independence and artistic freedom; each pursued their work with quiet radicality. In their hands, everyday objects are elevated to the extraordinary: a chair, a coat-stand and an easel possess the complexity of a building, a photograph of a single shoe becomes a monument, and a scattering of whimsical artefacts are enshrined in bronze. The fractured mise-en-scène —read as both a room and a landscape— is haunted by an imagined cast of characters. The drama moves from fantasy to reality, from a whimsical fairytale to the mundane, yet sacred, rituals of daily life.
