Potion Pictures was founded by David Newton to work in a diverse range of creative areas, including television, advertising, live events, film and interactive media. Each brief is approached with a combination of imagination and expertise in animation, motion graphics, illustration, visual effects, 3D and many other forms of design. From creating LED graphics in a live studio environment, to art d

irecting the design of an iPhone app, to projecting onto architectural landmarks, to illustrating and animating original characters, Potion Pictures is a team of talented individuals that can take on any challenge. Based in London's Southbank, we have also travelled further afield to work, with recent jobs located in Dublin, Glasgow, Manchester and Oslo.

Last week we won a BAFTA as part of the Entertainment Craft Team for Strictly Come Dancing. An idiosyncratic aspect of this category is that there are six named individuals on the award from a crew of hundreds representing dozens of different departments and disciplines. After five previous unsuccessful nominations, it was a surprise to win and none of us had prepared any kind of speech. And if we had, we might well still be going a week later as there are just so many people involved who work incredibly hard to make the show what it is.

However, from a graphics and AR point of view there are certainly key people who really should be acknowledged beyond Dave and Joe: Matt Lee for operating the Hippo and diligently pointing out the mistakes before anyone else does. Marcus Masdammer for setting up the Augmented Reality and running the onsite team from Mo-Sys. Patrick Wambold and Rael Bartstra from Epic Games for initially helping with the AR when it’d never been done before on a weekly live entertainment show. Within the Potion team, Ryan Nicholas and Uti David for joining the screen graphics team and producing amazing content at the requisite breakneck speed. And Jonny Furtado for operating the AR each week, cool as a cucumber.

Last time we posted this clip, it was viewed over 30 million times, got a retweet by David Beckham and was written about in several National newspapers. BBC Studios and Potion Pictures would like to invite up and coming motion graphic designers to apply for a paid position working on Strictly Come Dancing. You could be a recent graduate or self taught - the key is a passion for visual design and live performance, a desire to learn ‘on the job’ and a readiness to take your first professional steps in the creative industries.

This is a 4 month traineeship from late August to late December. Working under supervision of senior designers at Potion Pictures, the Trainee Designer would help create, design and animate performance visuals for every week of the show gaining valuable, professional experience and insight into the creative process.

Our ideal candidate would be a recent graduate or junior designer with demonstrable experience working with After Effects, other Adobe CC packages and Cinema 4D. Professional experience is not required but a portfolio containing self-initiated or educational based work is essential. Strong organisational and communication skills are also important.

As well as a desire to learn new skills and complete work to a high standard, we’re looking for someone to be an active member of the team and assist wherever possible. Equally crucial is a friendly and enthusiastic approach to briefs and teamwork. An ambition to work on live events and studio shows is essential.

Potion Pictures is an award-winning motion graphics and animation studio. We combine expertise and imagination, creating visual design across a range of creative areas including television, live events, theatre, and digital content.

Founded in 2009, Potion Pictures has expanded its team of multi-disciplined designers and project managers to include an array of creative styles and techical knowledge. Now based on London's Southbank, we travel with our work to TV studios, filming locations, and project sites across the world.

Working with our clients, we lead the design process from concept to completion, ensuring that projects are kept on budget and delivered on time. Colloborating closely with production companies, directors and performers, we work to ensure every brief reaches and surpasses creative ambitions.
