According to United Nations, in 2023 at least 51,100 women worldwide were murdered by partners and family members. This means a woman was killed every 10 minutes.

The small farmers of 2024 are not natural allies of the left and certainly not of the anarchists. It would take a step change in thinking to draw them towards a viewpoint that re-emphasises collectivity, an abandonment of the traditionalist hierarchy that has defined their lives and encouragement of direct working class re-engagement with the land. But it’s not impossible.

Farmers’ protests over a velvety soft reduction of inheritance tax privileges may seem overblown, but there’s a kernel of something interesting there ~ Rob Ray ~ With tractors besieging Downing Street, the new and shiny (well new, anyway) protest scene of the month has been farmers, tromping abo...

Student campaigners have hailed a significant first after Staffordshire University committed to exclude fossil fuel companies from its investment portfolios as well as those involved with border surveillance, incarceration and forced migrant deportations.

Students make Staffordshire the first British university to refuse to invest in companies involved in violence against migrants and fossil fuel extraction

The combination of cynicism about the present together with a continuing commitment to a better future is characteristic of my father's work. Today, on what would have been his 90th birthday, I feel the absence of his voice ever more keenly.

The great anarchist historian and activist left us a message for these dire times ~ Natasha Walter ~ How do we keep hope and faith alive? People keep asking that question as we watch the climate slide into crisis, war crimes stream across our social media platforms, and authoritarian leaders take po...

While the attempt to reinterpret the treaty stands little chance of becoming law, it reflects broader trends under the current coalition government. In its first year, the government has dismantled the Māori Health Authority, deprioritized te reo Māori in public services, and slashed funding for language programs in schools.

Thousands march to New Zealand parliament against right-wing attempt to undermine treaty ~ Barrie Sargeant ~ A nine-day hikoi mobilisation defending indigenous rights concluded in Wellington, Aotearoa/New Zealand, earlier this month, drawing tens of thousands in opposition to a contentious Treaty Pr...

Prescott leaned into his northern roots and trade union affiliations with unflagging zeal. It is easy to see how, for the mainstream media, his unvarnished accent and sometimes mangled syntax made him a convenient foil to the Conservative Party, playing into the narrative of Labour as the party of “ordinary people”. Yet Prescott weaponised this image to give the Blair government a free pass for mass privatisation, devastating wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and a surveillance society at home.

The former Deputy Prime Minister weaponised his northern roots and trade union affiliations to enable neoliberal Labour and its wars ~ Uri Gordon ~ John Prescott, the plainspoken northern bruiser who riled upper-class Tories while loyally advancing the New Labour project, has died. For many anarchis...

Burley and Lorber’s project to counter the mundane racism of collective guilt/responsibility is both honourable and necessary, and they have provided anarchists and other radicals a critical entry-point into the discourse.

Poor timing or perfect timing? Re-centring American Jewish voices crying out against the weaponisation of Jewish trauma by extremist right-wing/quasi-fascist Israeli politicians while at the same time deflecting and minimising the homicidal oppression of Palestinians (and now Lebanese)?

Numerous decentralised actions have been carried out on railway tracks and nuclear industry sites in France and Germany to mark the 20th anniversary of Sébastien Briat’s death. Briat was a 21-year-old French anti-nuclear activist who was struck and killed by a train carrying nuclear waste when preparing to chain himself to the tracks near Avricourt on 7 November 2004. The train was carrying 12 containers of waste from German nuclear power plants, which had been reprocessed in France, and was heading to Germany for storage, based on an agreement between the countries.

Twenty years on from 21-year-old activist Briat being killed by a nuclear waste train in France, actions raise awareness of plans to expand the industry

Trump’s second term could escalate support for Israel’s far-right agenda while cutting U.S. backing for Ukraine, with uncertain outcomes driven by his personal and political gain ... While Trump’s “America First” rhetoric points toward isolationism, his actions reveal a more erratic, self-serving approach. He might make limited military moves or engage in strategic posturing, either escalating or de-escalating crises without committing to any long-term policy — with the focus shifting depending on Trump’s personal gain. His unpredictability leaves the door open for either short- or long-term escalations with China or Russia, depending on what best suits his domestic agenda.

Trump’s second term could escalate support for Israel’s far-right agenda while cutting U.S. backing for Ukraine, with uncertain outcomes driven by his personal and political gain ~ Blade Runner ~ The result of the U.S. elections might seem inevitable in hindsight, thanks to the ultra-centrist De...

The anarchist split over the Great War (WW1) burst into print in November 1914, with grave consequences.
Jean Grave’s write-up is impassioned, and highlights both correct and incorrect ideas in the dissenters’ overall viewpoint. It is now known to be correct, for example, that the groundswell of social revolution was not potent enough, outside of Russia, to end the war. And it was dead wrong to think that this would be the last war, that the horror would persuade all peoples to finally end the dominion of those who sent them to die in muddy trenches and starve for lack of food.

The anarchist split over the Great War (WW1) burst into print in November 1914, with grave consequences ~ Rob Ray ~ One of the most famous articles Freedom ever carried, at least in historical terms, was a piece by Errico Malatesta, that titan of the Italian anarchist movement, entitled ‘Anarchist...

Faced with the inaction of world leaders to protect nature, representatives at the Meeting proposed as lines of action the implementation of community-based water management, the promotion of intercultural environmental education, the implementation of regional AntiCOPs, a mobilisation towards COP30 in Brazil and climate meetings in different parts of the world, the creation of an Autonomous Fund for Climate Disasters, the recovery of pre-colonial lands and practices to promote initiatives to revitalise species and ancestral agricultural systems, among other collective measures.

Global Meeting for Climate and Life brought together more than 250 delegates from Latin America and around the world ~ from Desinformémonos ~ After five days of work, the Global Meeting for Climate and Life – AntiCOP 2024 concluded in Oaxaca on 12 November, bringing together more than 250 represe...

With all these changes in the situation in recent years – right-wing governments, the pandemic and the return of the Lula government, even more bourgeois – splits were created that today divide militant anarchism in Brazil into four main lines: Brazilian Anarchist Coordination, Libertarian Socialist Organization, Popular Anarchist Union/ Federation of Revolutionary Syndicalist Organisations of Brazil and its dissidents, such as GLP/Jornal Amigo do Povo, Ofensiva Revolucionária, among others.

Get off X/Twitter now!
It's not strategic to try to hold territory on a platform where the algorithms are designed to systematically center authoritarian narratives and cryptocurrency schemes. At this point, the participation of those who are not in favor of authoritarianism only serves to preserve the illusion that X/Twitter is a public square, when in fact it is a means of social control.

With Elon Musk playing a role in the incoming Trump administration, it is a safe bet that X/Twitter will be providing intelligence directly to federal agencies for the purposes of monitoring and attacking dissent. Musk is already looting everything on the platform for his AI ventures.

Millions are joining Bluesky; Mastodon is a more decentralized option. Set up Signal loops. Get in the habit of meeting regularly in person.
