🎉 Celebrating 30 Years of IWG: A Global Movement for Women in Sport 🎉

Last night, we celebrated three decades of advancing visibility and opportunities for women and girls in sport at our Pearl Anniversary Dinner at London’s historic Guildhall, generously hosted by the City of London Corporation.

With HRH The Duke of Edinburgh and 150 senior leaders, athletes and changemakers in attendance, the evening showcased the power of collaboration and progress, featuring:

- A keynote from Getty Images, unveiling research on the visibility and portrayal of women and girls in sport:

✅ Women value imagery that improves self-esteem and empowerment.
✅ Inclusive visuals showing disability, different ages, and everyday people help drive participation.
✅ Women are not a homogenous group—representation must reflect regional and cultural diversity.

- A thought-provoking panel discussion chaired by Annamarie Phelps CBE OLY brought together leaders, including:

⭐ Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, Paralympian
⭐ Chris Grant OBE, Chair of British Basketball Federation
⭐ Stacey Copeland, former boxer and broadcaster
⭐ Matt Barrett, founder of Goal Click, who shared an inspiring video from the Anita White Fund.

Annamarie Phelps reflected:

“We heard new insights from Getty Images focusing on realistic portrayal, recognition of intersectionality, and the impact of equal visibility. This valuable guidance will help sports organizations promote women’s teams, engage female fans, and design impactful marketing materials. Women’s sport is the place to invest if you want to make real impact—whether you’re a corporate, investor, or broadcaster.”

📣 Looking ahead: Join us at the 2026 IWG Global Summit in Birmingham - a landmark opportunity to unite, collaborate, and shape the future of women and girls in sport.

What a day we had on Tuesday!

Our friends at Women in Sport hosted a truly fantastic 40th Anniversary Conference attended by Lisa O’Keefe and Annamarie Phelps on the theme of “Because Women and Girls Belong – Joining Forces for the Future”, covering off their four policy priorities of gender budgeting, 50/50 leadership, legislation about misogyny and the call for an Independent Regulator for Sport.

As well as hearing from influential speakers, the conference allowed for rich discussions with a focused call for men and women to stand shoulder to shoulder to consolidate the progress made so far and drive forward greater gender equality.

Lisa O’K represented IWG in a lively panel discussion on the topic of ‘Why are we still here?’, receiving a spontaneous round of applause when she spoke about the urgency for the need to make change and highlighting how “every now and again a programme is created to fix the women, give them opportunities and lift them up, but nobody actually stops and says it's the system that needs fixing.”

Make sure you read their review and keep an eye out for a video wrap-up of the highlights from the day!

It was a pleasure to be invited to the British Ambassador to Japan’s Residence on Monday to explain about the work of the IWG and the activities we had undertaken while we were in Tokyo.

We also took the opportunity to update the Ambassador and her team on The Global Summit in Birmingham 2026 and explored ways in which we could potentially collaborate in the build-up to the event.

We look forward to continuing this discussion over the coming months.
