⚽️ “Sports Editor Sam Lord reviews the defining moments and controversies from Euro 2024 in Germany.

As English and Spanish fans return home from the Olympiastadion in Berlin, Euro 2024 draws to a close. Arguably not the most attention-grabbing or goal-heavy football tournament in recent years, the German Euros still had its fair share of magical moments and peculiar controversies. Let’s review them.”

On Saturday, 22 June, King’s hosted its annual open day which was disrupted by the protest led by KCLStands4Justice, provoking a divided response from prospective students and parents.

The students have staged a protest on Strand Campus after King’s College London (KCL) told members of the group KCLStands4Justice (known for their seven-week-long encampment on their Strand Campus) to pack up their tents before the university open day. A representative of KCLStands4Justice told Roar that this came with a promise to allow them to get the tents back up “if they behave”. Furthermore, Roar can confirm a senior member of the negotiating team was “excluded from all King’s campuses” following the protest at the Distinguished Alumni Awards on 11 June.

On Tuesday 11 June, King’s College London’ (KCL) annual Alumni Awards night, recognising a small number of KCL alumni for their achievements that year, saw around 20 members of the pro-Palestine encampment attempt to storm the event.
…
About an hour into the protest, the group tried to force their way into the Great Hall but were stopped by several members of the security team. Roar could not confirm whether or not the confrontation turned violent but one protestor claimed that security “grabbed the Keffiyeh (a headdress, Ed.) from ’round [her] neck and tried to strangle [her].’”

14/05/2024

Roar can exclusively reveal that real terms expenditure by King’s College London (KCL) Sport & Wellbeing was 10% lower over the last five years than the five years beforehand. This reduction in investment is especially notable given the increase in the size of KCL’s student body during this period.

In February of this year, KCL’s Head of Sport remarked to one complainant, “I would challenge whether Sport is ‘undervalued’ by KCL”. The 6% drop in real terms funding and 30% drop in real terms funding per student compared to a decade ago brings this assertion into question.
