A fantastic, timely article by Amanda Augustine Fast Company on hiring trends in 2025. My takeaways:
🤖Most hiring managers can spot AI-generated résumés. Use AI to optimize, not fully generate, your candidate materials.
💼Skills-based hiring is on the rise. So emphasize competencies and abilities over education & experience.
🏢Return-to-office mandates are coming. If you want to protect your flexible work arrangement, proactively communicate your ability to excel when remote or hybrid.

It's more important than ever to understand how technological advances, emerging hiring trends, and shifts in work environments are changing certain expectations around the résumé.

It's been interesting to hear from people how their companies have begun revisiting their flexible, hybrid work policies as the pandemic becomes more of a distant memory, even though we just emerged from it two years ago. Some companies are clinging to in-office mandates while others are embracing more modern, hybrid approaches shown to boost productivity.

While some industries and roles simply aren't conducive to remote work, I personally think that companies that don't keep up with more modern ways of working will see increased rates of attrition in the years ahead. Your career should ideally empower both a rewarding professional life and a fulfilling personal life, and I'd encourage everyone out there to consider what workplace arrangement in the new year will enable this for you.

How have your workplace's policies around in-office face time evolved recently? What have been your experiences with any recent shifts?

Thanks again to Harvey Coyle at MHP Group for sharing this International Workplace Group plc data with me.

An interesting article about Zoom Video rebranding to Zoom as they diversify into broader workplace productivity tools beyond videoconferencing alone. As someone who hosts many webinars on various platforms each year, I still see Zoom as the best videoconferencing tool out there, far superior to Teams or WebEx, and in a completely different stratosphere compared to the likes of GoToWebinar, Streamyard, and BlueJeans.

I know Zoom has had lackluster financial results post-pandemic, but I'm still rooting for the company to continue delivering superior products across its entire suite of AI productivity tools.

Zoom just dropped 'video' from its official name, and it’s a subtle change that's a big tell about where the company is headed.

"Twitter is here to stay. I can't imagine a world where it doesn't remain a convenient, go-to platform for journalists, the media, and professionals to share content. So I'd recommend you at least secure your username and profile there even if you don't intent to use it immediately."

This is a direct quote from . . . me. Well, I was so very wrong about that, and I no longer plan to remain active on the platform moving forward.

I don't, however, want to complete abandon micro-posting, as I do feel it serves a unique role in sharing content from a personal branding standpoint. Therefore, I've decided, for the time being, to make a shift. For my micro-posts moving forward, you're welcome to now instead follow me on:

I'd be curious how other long-time users of Twitter are now thinking about the platform, both fans and non-fans. For those leaving X, where are you now headed? BlueSky? Mastadon? Threads? Reddit?

MacOS users, if you've ever struggled to share your computer audio presenting on Microsoft Teams when someone outside your organisation is hosting the meeting (as I do), I've outlined this workaround after troubleshooting this with a corporate client today. Sharing your audio should be as simple as selecting "Include audio," in Teams, but unfortunately, it doesn't always work on MacOS without resulting in an inability to hear others on the call or your own audio when presenting.

I originally outlined a fix for this in 2022, but I've now updated this post to cover the latest Teams build for MacOS v 24256.###x.

4-step process to share your computer audio on Microsoft Teams when presenting from MacOS machine

Do you feel like you should be doing something else with your career? 🤔 Many professionals I cross paths with long for work that better aligns with their strengths and interests.

In my latest Forbes article, I explore the concept of your professional "center of gravity"—the sweet spot where your skills and interests meet. Figuring out your professional center can help you move from simply going through the motions of a job to doing work you find fulfilling.
