💚 Green and Blue are best friends. But ... who is the bestest? 💙

Green builds a bigger, better shell. And then Blue builds a biggerer, betterer shell! Uh-oh – I think we can guess where this is going.

Who, or what, will ultimately triumph? 🐢

This furiously fast-paced and witty picture book warns of the dangers of comparing yourself to others, especially your friends!

We are thrilled to share the cover of our brand new picture book, Becoming Brave – a heartfelt biographical picture book about love, grief and believing in yourself.

Written by debut author and beautifully illustrated by new talent, Tomekah George ()

Following Jennie and her relationship with her late husband, critically acclaimed jazz musician Abram Wilson, Becoming Brave is both an exploration of grief and a celebration of courage.

About the book.
If you want to try new things, you have to be brave. But you can’t be brave without also being scared.

While Jennie grew up wanting to please other people, Abram followed his heart from an early age. The two couldn't have been more different, and yet when they met Jennie fell in love with Abram's fearlessness.

But when life takes a turn for the worse and Abram is no longer by Jennie's side, will she find her own courage?

This poignant and heartfelt picture book explores themes of love, grief and believing in yourself in a gentle and uplifting way. With a contemporary setting and characters that many readers will relate to, this book is great for inspiring children and starting important conversations.

Who’s ever heard of a penguin that doesn't like the cold? Surrounded by the same old snow day in day out and always bloomin’ freezing, Clive Penguin wishes he was somewhere else. SOMEONE else. But, with an epic discovery just around the corner, the solution might be easier than he thinks . .

✨ COVER REVEAL ✨

We are delighted to announce the cover and acquisition of the brand-new series, 'Keisha Jones' written by Natalie Denny ( ) and illustrated by Chanté Timothy. (.chante)

Keisha Jones is an empowering young role model who’s itching to stand up to the world. We cannot wait for readers to meet her and join the 'Bee Squad'!

The first book 'Keisha Jones Takes on the World' publishes this August and is perfect for newly independent readers.

About the book:

Brimming with ideas and passion, Keisha is determined to stamp down injustices and stand up for what she believes. When Grandpa Joe tells Keisha about Great Aunt Bee, who was a lawyer and an activist, Keisha is determined to follow in her footsteps. Forming the Bee Squad, she enlists her friends KD and Paisley to help put an end to inequality. Soon they have their first cause.

Incensed by the fact that her local pet shop is selling male rabbits for more than female ones, Keisha lobbies the manager who explains that he’s overrun with female rabbits. The cheaper price is just a sales incentive. Uh-uh. It’s time to stand up for rabbits’ rights. But mixing up the bunnies has consequences far beyond those Keisha could have imagined!

My Heart is a Poem review and recommendation by Thank you!

(ad) Reading poetry with your children: yay or nay?

💭I talked recently about having a bit of a love/hate relationship with poetry throughout my life. Until recently, it’s not something I’ve gravitated towards with the children but a few recent books have made a real difference. This is the latest.

🌺If poetry daunts you, or if you’re yet to introduce it, My Heart Is A Poem as a beautiful, accessible starting point. And if you and your little ones already love poetry, you will delight in it also.

💜It feels like a bucketload of care has been taken in curating this collection. Lots of the poems have been written for this book but others are older, including Elaine Laron’s ‘No One Else’ (1974) ‘The Hurt Boy and The Birds’ by John Agard (2004) and ‘Argument’ from Joseph Coelho’s Overheard in a Tower Block (2017)

💭Talking to children about big feelings can be tricky - they may clam up, walk away, or simply not have the vocabulary to explain how they’re feeling. These poems are short but pack a real emotional punch - so powerful in opening conversations.

🌺Feelings of joy, excitement and happiness are celebrated, including in the opening poem but so too are the emotions that we’re sometimes told are ‘bad’. Of course, they need validating too, and talking is crucial in overcoming them.

💜The idea of fear is tackled in Debjani Chaterjee’s ‘No More’. Coral Rumble’s ‘Ache’ is about the feeling of being left out, ‘The Rider’ deals with loneliness, Kate Wakeling’s The Unspeakable Feeling handles embarrassment so cleverly and ‘Sadness’ by Nikita Gill almost brought me to tears.

💭Four incredible illustrators have brought this collection to life with their artwork, adding vibrancy and emotion in the most magical way.

🌺I wanted to choose a line or short verse to begin this review but I just couldn’t choose. I heartily recommend it, and can only imagine the wonderful things teachers will be doing with this one - it’s an absolute gift of a book for teaching poetry whilst weaving in emotional literacy.

We are THRILLED that .brahmachari has been longlisted for the Medal for Writing for the truly, truly special When Shadows Fall - illustrated by Natalie Sirett

We are incredibly proud of Sita, Natalie and the team behind this book - described in The Guardian as "A moving, hard-hitting journey for teens through grief and acceptance, interwoven with powerful illustration and viscerally vivid verse."

Congratulations Sita!

📚📚📚

Kai, Orla and Zak grew up together, their days spent on the patch of wilderness in between their homes, a small green space in a sprawling grey city. Music, laughter and friendship bind them together and they have big plans for their future – until Kai’s family suffers a huge loss.

Trying to cope with his own grief, as well as watching it tear his family apart, Kai is drawn into a new and more dangerous crowd, until his dreams for the future are a distant memory. Excluded from school and retreating from his loved ones, it seems as though his path is set, his story foretold. Orla, Zak and new classmate Om are determined to help him find his way back. But are they too late?

Thank you to .eaton.readit for this excellent review of Don’t Mix Up My Dinosaur 🦖🦕

Interactive, fun and filled with dinosaur drawings, what’s
not to love about this mix and match board book?! Which dinosaur will be your little one’s favourite? There are five mix and match, touchy-feely options to choose from, your little one can get their fine motor skills working by turning the chunky wheel to find the appropriate body part for each brightly coloured dinosaur. What will the horn of the triceratops look and feel like? How about the tail for the Velociraptor? Or the crest for the Parasaurolophus? Your little ones can learn about dinosaurs in the most fun and interactive of ways through this bright and beautiful book. Each chunky two-page spread is filled with a riot of colour and the drawings of the dinosaurs are fun and engaging. Your little one can even make up their own dinosaur by mixing and matching different options and I am sure that much hilarity will ensue.
🦕🦖This is a fabulously fun board book and is perfect for little dinosaur lovers everywhere.

A book for those celebrating Chanukah next week and for everyone who would like to learn more this festival.

Eight Nights, Eight Lights, a book by Natalie Barnes and illustrated

Thank you to for this excellent review and 📸…

🕎I’m kicking off with this sublime Chanukah book - it’s one of those books that tries to achieve a lot, and succeeds. It is beautiful and educational, filled with celebration, family and community, as well as offering insight into the history of the festival.

✨Excitement is high as Max races home to light the first candle on his grandparents’ antique Menorah as they sing Hebrew songs. The next day, his friend and neighbour, Lara, is tasked with lighting the second candle in her home, before delivering doughnuts to neighbours with her dad.

🕎Over the coming nights, excitement builds as families come together, games are played, delicious foods are eaten and, of course, candles are lit. The sense of community is palpable.

✨On the eighth night, we join lots of the families in their local synagogue to hear the story of how Chanukah began. In perhaps the most pertinent part of the book, one child tells another, “People can be scared when they see differences in others that they don’t understand. But we are all different… that’s what makes everyone special…’

🕎And that is the prevailing message of the book - each household celebrates in different ways, intrinsically linked by the commonality of their faith.

✨We end with Max as he and his mum watch a magnificent firework display from their window. In other homes, we can see Menorahs and Christmas trees twinkling in unison - a beautiful sense of peace and unity.

🕎A HUGE thumbs up for this one - perfect for celebrating Chanukah, learning about the festival and for use in a classroom or assembly setting.

First up, WHAT A WONDERFUL PHRASE by Nicola Edwards and

Reviewed and 📸 by

In honour of , today we feature this amazing book that helps children understand where idioms, phrases and metaphors come from. This is a collection of some popular phrases from countries all over the world.

What I love about this book is that they have the idiom in its own language first, then a transliteration, translation, and then finally an explanation with background about it. The colours and illustrations are absolutely stunning. Moreover, the illustrations reflect the country’s own people and environment, making this book a perfect example of inclusivity.

This is such a good book to have at home… so informative, and a great conversation starter… not just for children, but definitely for the whole family to enjoy & learn from! Swipe to see inside the beautiful book!
