in Shibuya, arguably the best record store in Tokyo! ✨
Definitely not just a place to tick off your ‘wish list’.
If you’re passionate about the underground scene, you’ll find there all the local shows info, merchandise, and even a sense of community. Not to mention the records!
I had the opportunity to finally visit there and we did a mini interview with Hiro, one of the owners and local hc legend 🙌🏼

For the unknown reason this album slipped off my radar in 2020, when it was released.. Just thought I’ll introduce them, as I’ve been giving it a good listen in the last few weeks and I highly recommend it. Tokyo hardcore with a strong oi! vibes. 👊🏼💥

It’s that time of the year again when you reflect and s**t, which in my case means going back through all the best releases of 2023.

It was a tough task to choose only 10, in that it was a fantastic year and Japan keeps amazing me with the variety of underground bands and fantastic albums being recorded.
So forgive me if I missed a few.

I should also say that my focus this year was probably more on the hardcore scene than the crust and punk. Largely following my visit to Japan and being able to see for the first time some of my favourite bands from the late 90’s and early 2000’s, plus a s**tload of new stuff. It was epic.

I asked the pressing plant to send them directly to make up for the massive production delay, and they managed to get to Japan before the UK for some unknown reason.🙄 I’m still awaiting our part and I hope everyone else, who pre ordered has their copy already.

One of the most precious memories.

Thank you to my dear friend for making it happened and for great time when showing me around Nagoya 😎😎🫶🏻
Unfortunately I couldn’t stay at DEATH SIDE gig, otherwise I’d miss my flight.
Also, FORWARD cancelled their gig in Tokyo week earlier.. but hey, only more reasons to come back to Japan 😺✌🏼

While we still awaiting GUIDING records (any day now), I wanted to introduce you to another project of one of the band’s member, Isao called ASIANBEAUTYMURDER.
If you’re into melodic hardcore, you’ll dig it, so good!!🫡

I was given a copy of CD when I met guys in Japan in September. I listened to this album earlier though, it’s available on all streaming platforms (I also included a song in my Spotify playlist, which is available for everyone, link in bio section) ✌🏼☠️

I’m revisiting this book again, “THE LEGEND OF KANSAI HARDCORE” 👌🏼🔥

An incredible piece of history, uncovering the beginning of the Kansai hardcore scene and beyond.

Mr Ishiya Forward himself (DEATH SIDE, Forward) teamed up with Shintani from Rapes with a series of interviews with the most influential players of the time, highlighting the members of the bands like S.O.B, ZOUO, Nightmare, Outo, MOBS, Warhead etc.

Some of the stories and anecdotes are just hilarious, I have to admit I was crying laughing reading some parts…

The book is packed with very rare pictures and facts, you didn’t want to know 🔍👀
Absolutely “must read”!

Quoting website, that’s what the vocalist TKC said about the tracks:

“In these songs, we’re trying to address the dark side of society here in Japan.

Hive Mind is about our anger and rebellion against peer pressure in society here. It’s very tough to express ourselves honestly here in Japan. The majority will always force those in the minority to follow their way.

Chain of Hatred is about anger toward child abuse. These days we have seen a lot of reports about child abuse at nursery schools or daycare centers.

In both of these songs, the essence of these tracks are the same. That as a society we, the minority, continue to suffer and thus fuels our rage.”

You can clearly hear that rage, BLINDSIDE never disappoints! Sick tunes 🔥🔥🔥
