Other Side Fried – the only restaurant in the chain – reopened as Buster’s Hamburger Bar on 1 November after frying chicken on Atlantic Road since 2017. Owners Matt Harris and Tommy Kempton began the brand from a van in 2014. They also own the small plates restaurant Ploussard in Clapham with its list of low intervention, biodynamic and natural wines....

Brixton is one of the 115 Post Offices threatened with closure under plans announced today (13 November) by the provider. The company wants to get rid of Post Offices it owns directly and shift their functions into “partners” like W H Smith – which already houses Streatham’s Post Office. The move is estimated to put 1,000 jobs at risk. The plan comes as the Post Office is still under fire for the Horizon accounting scandal.

A trade union has accused Lambeth council of burying its head in the sand about a strike by people working in its parking service. GMB, a union for local government workers, estimates that a current strike by parking wardens in the borough will cost the council around £300,000 a week in lost revenue. The union said dozens of wardens employed by the council’s parking contractor are taking action over several issues....

Between 1950 and 2017 humans created an estimated 9.2 billion tonnes of plastic. About 7 billion tonnes of that is estimated* to exist as waste on the surface of the earth – that is equivalent to the combined weight of 70,000 fully loaded United States Navy aircraft carriers, or seven times the weight of Mount Everest. A group of local volunteers want you and local decision-makers to know more about the how and why this imminent and growing threat to all life on earth....

Lambeth council’s new private renting licensing scheme will soon apply to most of the borough. The council’s cabinet has approved the extension of the “selective licensing scheme” which is designed to tackle rogue landlords and improve conditions for tenants in private rented accommodation. Brixton House theatre on Coldharbour Lane has been shortlisted in this year’s Architects’ Journal awards – some of the UK’s most important – in the community and faith project category. Designed by architects Foster Wilson Size, Brixton House is the first theatre to serve the area for many years, the Architects’ Journal said in a 2022 review. Previous local venues have either been demolished, turned into bingo halls, or bombed – as happened to the original Brixton Theatre in 1940, the AJ said....
