Lewisham has been voted the most stressful borough for commuting in London.

A new study by Resume.io found Lewisham to rank as the most stressful boroughs for commuting in London, with 42.54 per cent of work journey-themed tweets displaying stress.

"Lewisham Council has secured a share of a £16m fund to help tackle youth unemployment.

The scheme is delivered through Youth Futures Foundation – a not-for-profit organisation established in 2019 to improve employment opportunities for young people from less advantaged backgrounds.

The programme aims to provide young people who face barriers to employment, with the support they need to build their careers and access great quality jobs."

This day is typically celebrated by being affectionate to your cat, giving it treats, or by donating to local cat shelters.

Cycle to Work Day seeks to encourage people to grab their bikes and ride to work. This day aims to raise awareness about the benefits of cycling. It hopes to inspire more people to ride their bikes for health and environmental benefits. These include improved cardiovascular health and lower carbon emissions.

Cycle to Work Day was established in 2011 as a health initiative. It is observed annually at the beginning of August.

House prices in Lewisham drop by an average of over £11,000.

"The latest data from the government department reveals that in April 2022 average house prices in Lewisham reached £446,546.

This was down from £458,488 in March, representing a 2.6 per cent decrease. In the last 12 months it has risen by 0.5 per cent."

Detached houses - Down to £945,514 from £970,980 in March
Semi-detached houses - Down to £759,755 from £780,540 in March
Terraced houses - Down to £549,261 from £562,522 in March
Flats - Down to £359,084 from £369,376 in March

Deptford Town Hall Statues with links to Slavery are to remain.

"A set of four statues with slavery links are to remain outside Deptford Town Hall after a consultation with Lewisham residents.

The statues are of Sir Francis Drake, Cromwellian admiral Robert Blake, Lord Horatio Nelson, and an anonymous representative naval figure.

These four figures either have links to Britain’s role in slavery or the colonial system that supported slavery.

Back in 2019, students from occupied Deptford Town Hall for 137 days to protest the alleged systematic racism at Goldsmiths."

Lewisham Shopping Centre could be bulldozed to make way for over 500 homes & a 15 storey tower.

"The plan will “deliver a truly mixed-use regeneration scheme that will reinforce Lee Green’s role within Lewisham’s town centre hierarchy, attracting wider investment and improvement,” according to the developer’s documents."

Galliard says its plans will breathe new life into an underused area.

World Turtle Day seeks to raise awareness about turtles and tortoises. This day aims to protect them and their habitats. It encourages people to learn more about them to help keep them safe and protected. According to seeturtles.org, 6 out of 7 turtle species are classified as threatened or endangered. This means if nothing is done, they may go extinct in the future.

But why do we eat Pancakes & what is Shrove Tuesday?

In the Christian calendar, Shrove Tuesday marks the beginning of the run-up to Easter, otherwise known as Lent. The 40-day period of Lent is traditionally observed as a period of self-discipline and people tend to give up a bad habit until Easter begins.
Historically, Shrove Tuesday marked a day where people had to prepare for Lent & seeing as people weren't going to be making any sweet treats across the next month, pancakes were a practical and quick way to use up all the rich ingredients that would've otherwise went to waste.
