4 December - Happy International Cheetah Day!

The cheetah is the world’s fastest land animal and Africa’s most endangered big çat almost 10,000 left in the wild. Uniquely adapted for speed, the cheetah is capable of reaching speeds up to 100 km per hour in just over 3 seconds, and at top speed their stride is 6.4 meters long.

Why December 4th?

It is the birthday of Khayam, a cheetah Dr. Laurie Marker raised from a cub at Wildlife Safari, in Oregon. Khayam was trained for the first research project in rewilding and inspired her first trip to Namibia in 1977.

Blind moles are small, furry and really blind subterranean rodents that can live up to 20 years, nearly 10 times longer than a mouse of similar size. This unusual longevity is explained by the animal’s natural resistance to cancer.
