Many congratulations to Tim Routledge, James Scott and Morgan Evans for their win at the Royal Television Society Awards - Best Lighting for Eurovision Song Contest 2023.
Our congraduations also go to the other nominations - Nigel Catmur for The Coronation Concert and James Tinsley for The Traitors
The STLD will be fully supporting Showlight, and if you have never been then look it up - it is not to be missed!
The Showlight Quadrennial is one of the few international conference and networking events organised specifically for lighting professionals, by lighting professionals, across the performance, television, film, architectural and event worlds.

We have heard the sad news that Lighting Director John Pomphrey has passed away. John was a much respected staff LD at BBC Manchester and amongst other shows lit Red Dwarf from the beginning.

Last night close to 150 guests, mostly students, were treated to an excellent presentation by Lighting Designer David Bishop who talked through how the magic is created on Strictly Come Dancing at Elstree Studios.
Our thanks go to the programmers and the crew who stayed on to host the meeting.

Last night saw another successful STLD meeting, this time at BBC New Broadcasting House where members were able to look in the BBC News studio and The One Show studio to see how these shows are lit, and hear how both shows have progressed over recent years. Our thanks go to LDs Rob Horne and Stuart Gain for making the meeting possible and for being such good hosts

With great sadness we have to report that John O'Brien has passed away. John was a great supporter of the STLD and had served on the committee for many years. He was a very accomplished photographer and took many of the photographs that illuminated our articles.
Our deepest sympathies go to his family and colleagues

Tentative good news I hope that the Writer’s Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and US Television Producers have allmost reached an agreement. Just needs the Alliance to follow suit now with the Screen Actors Guild & American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.
