What do you do to reduce waste?

10 Things You Can do to Reduce Waste

Stop using single-use plastic products. Plastic is not biodegradable and will be around FOREVER. To learn more check out: What is plastic and should we get rid of it?
RECYCLE! Sometimes plastic is unavoidable, so recycle it along with your other recyclables.
Donate your old clothes. Instead of throwing away your old stuff, donate it to Goodwill or a homeless shelter. You’d be surprised how many people could benefit from the stuff you don’t use anymore. Plus you’ll keep it out of the landfill.
Reduce food waste. Food is the largest component of landfills. If you over-prepared for your family gathering and have a ton of leftovers, consider donating it to a shelter rather than tossing it.
Eat healthily and cook at home. Fast food wrappers and containers create a ton of waste. Buying your own food and using reusable shopping bags can help cut back on unnecessary garbage.
Buy “green” products. More and more products are becoming available that cut back on the packaging or use recycled or recyclable options. Keeping these things in mind when making purchases can lower your trash contribution and send a message to retailers about what’s important to you.
Stop using plastic water bottles and bring your own reusable cups to the coffee shop. Single-use cups and plastic bottles are a huge source of pollution that ends up in the ocean and… everywhere else.
Buy rechargeable batteries. Batteries are terrible for the environment and think of all the money you will save by just recharging instead.
Start composting. Instead of throwing kitchen waste in the trash, you can compost your natural materials and make plant food in the process for your vegetable or flower garden.
Cut back on buying stuff. Just because you can afford it doesn’t mean you should buy it. Prioritize actual needs versus things you know will probably just end up in a landfill. Or buy it used. Lots of great things can be found at your local Goodwill or other second-hand stores. Vintage is the way to go!
