New details have been released about the twelve new compositions that have been written for the Coronation of Their Majesties The King and The Queen Consort at Westminster Abbey.

A life-long music enthusiast and champion of the arts, His Majesty has overseen, influenced and been personally involved in the commissioning process and the detail of the musical programme, which will showcase and celebrate musical talent from across the United Kingdom.

The musical commissions offer contemporary interpretations of centuries of musical tradition, bringing together world-class composers, who are some of the most esteemed living artists from across the Classical, Sacred, Film, Television and Music Theatre fields of music. They have taken varied approaches to their compositions - whether for orchestra, solo voice or choir - resulting in a diverse, inclusive and accessible musical programme.

“It is hard to believe that two years have passed since my mother and I planted a tree in Windsor Great Park to mark the commencement of The Queen’s Green Canopy.”

As The Queen's Green Canopy project comes to end, The King and The Prince of Wales have planted an acer tree in the gardens of Sandringham House – one of over 3 million that have been planted in Queen Elizabeth II’s name as part of the initiative.

“This project has shown how simple, practical and positive gestures can make a big difference, and I can think of no more fitting tribute to Her late Majesty’s seventy-year reign.”

‘I can hardly begin to express the pride I feel in the strength of the partnership between our two countries. Germany, her people and distinctive culture have made such a profound impact on me over so many of my previous visits.’

The King made history today, becoming the first British Monarch to address the Bundestag.

The Bundestag is the national parliament of Germany, and is directly elected by the people. His Majesty’s speech marked the deep historical bonds and longstanding links between Germany and the UK.

Other engagements on Day Two of the Royal Visit celebrated Germany’s commercial history (Wittenbergplatz Food Market), culture (the Komishe Oper) and openness (the Tegel Refugee Centre which receives refugees fleeing Ukraine).

"Over all these years, and in so many ways, I have been struck by the warmth of the friendship between our nations and by the vitality of our partnership in countless areas."

This evening The King spoke of the enduring partnership between the UK and Germany as the first day of Their Majesties' State Visit drew to a close.

Toasting the President during a State Banquet at Schloss Bellevue in Berlin, His Majesty also thanked the German people for their messages of condolence following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September.

On Day One of the State Visit - the first since The King's Accession in September - Their Majesties were received by a Guard of Honour before visiting the Brandenburg Gate. In the afternoon, The King attended a Sustainability Reception at the Schloss.

Following a series of devastating earthquakes in the region, The King has met members of the Syrian and Turkish diaspora communities in London to show his support to those affected during this difficult time.

Over 13 million people have been impacted across Turkey and Syria.

In Hounslow, His Majesty met volunteers who have been collecting, packaging and organising the transportation of food, blankets and warm clothing for vulnerable people in Turkey.

In Trafalgar Square, The King launched Syria's House, a temporary Syrian community tent where members of the Syrian community can come together to support those who need it most.

Thank you for such a sunny welcome to Brick Lane! ☀️ It was wonderful to meet so many members of the Bangladeshi community here.

At the heart of the East End and one of London’s most iconic streets, Brick Lane is known for its food and the famous selection of curry restaurants. 🍛 The short stretch of Bangladeshi restaurants at the southern end of Brick Lane is known as Banglatown, home to many annual street festivals including the Boishakhi Mela, the Brick Lane Festival and the Curry Festival.

Earlier in the day, Their Majesties had planted a tree in Altab Ali Park in memory of the 25-year-old local who was killed as he walked home from work.

In the afternoon, The King went to the University of East London, where His Majesty opened the new Hospital & Primary Care Training Hub. 🩺 The hub uses its range of wards to simulate clinical situations to train future generations of NHS professionals.

Today, HRH The Earl of Wessex is visiting schools, voluntary and community organisations running the DofE in and around Blackpool – spending time with young people who are Volunteering in local communities as part of their DofE.

Every young person deserves the chance to do their DofE – which is why we're working to reach a million young people by 2026, with a focus on reaching young people who face barriers to taking part.

We’re expanding to reach more voluntary and community organisations and more schools in deprived areas, giving more young people the opportunity to do their DofE.

“Coming to this university, and to this city, has always felt a bit like coming home. Firstly, because my father’s family came from this part of Scotland, secondly, because my husband and I are lucky enough to spend precious time each year in Aberdeenshire and finally, because ten years ago, I received the great honour of being installed as Chancellor of this very special University.”

The Queen Consort today visited the new Science Teaching Hub at the University of Aberdeen and met the staff and students who work there. The University is renowned for its world-leading research in health, energy, food and nutrition and environmental and biological sciences.

♻️ In 2020, the University of Aberdeen launched its Aberdeen 2040 strategy, with sustainability as a key area of focus – including a commitment to achieve net zero carbon emissions before 2040.

📺 Tomorrow The King’s first Christmas Broadcast as Monarch will be available to watch from 3pm GMT on our YouTube channel.

📻 The tradition dates back to His Majesty’s Great-Grandfather King George V, who used the then relatively untried medium of radio to make his first Christmas Broadcast from Sandringham in 1932, with words drafted by Rudyard Kipling.

It was the outbreak of war in 1939 which firmly established the Royal Christmas Broadcast. With many now facing an uncertain future, King George VI spoke live to offer a message of reassurance.

Queen Elizabeth II made the first televised Christmas Broadcast in 1957. Over the course of her 70-year Her Majesty’s Broadcasts chronicled both the life of the nation and of The Monarchy. The Broadcast was one of the rare occasions when The Queen gave her own views on societal changes, as well as often speaking of her own personal Faith.

Today, The Bank of England has unveiled designs for new bank notes featuring His Majesty The King. They are expected to enter circulation in the UK by mid-2024.

Although the Monarch’s likeness has appeared on coins since the eighth century, bank notes are a much more recent invention. The British Sovereign has only been featured on British bank notes since 1960, making His Majesty just the second Monarch - and the first King - to appear on currency in this way.

London’s Community Kitchen, founded back in 2014, works with the most vulnerable communities across London and is supported by a network of dedicated volunteers. 🥫 It distributes up to 60 tonnes of surplus food to local communities serving over 10,000 people every week from its hub in Harrow.

The Cookery School trains and upskills the community through its hospitality programme and cookery courses. This afternoon, Their Majesties joined staff and students preparing an afternoon tea created from 100% surplus food.

☕️ The King and The Queen Consort also paid a visit to The Kind Café - which uses ingredients from its market and offers a fully integrated training and employment programme.

Thank you for welcoming Their Majesties today!

We were delighted to welcome our patron, Princess Alexandra yesterday! 👸

After her tour of the wards, the Princess enjoyed a snowy stroll in the grounds where she observed one of the ‘Tree of Trees’, which was gifted to us as part of the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations earlier in the summer. 🌳

We received one of the trees in recognition of the vital contribution that the hospice makes to its local community.

To round off the afternoon, tea was served and Her Royal Highness was then introduced to groups of St Christopher’s benefactors, supporters and volunteers who help us continue the vital work we do.

Thank you for your visit ma'am! We hope to see you again soon! 🙏

“I could not be more pleased to see how all these obstacles are being overcome and to know that the college and its students are ready to face the future with confidence and hope.”

To celebrate the Royal National College for the Blind’s 150th anniversary, The King has met students who are being equipped with the skills to live independently, and to prepare for university and work.

The RNC champions the teaching of Braille, whilst exploring new technologies to help with communication.

Alongside academic studies, students are encouraged to take part in varied activities, from practical skills like cooking, to assisted team sports. In the sports hall, The King was shown a demonstration of Blind Football, where players are guided by the voices of their teammates.
