We’re delighted to share that MediaTracks is partnering with Young Film Academy, the UK’s leading provider of filmmaking courses and programmes for young people aged 6-19.

Based in London, YFA helps over 15,000 young filmmakers each year create their first digital films, from West End-premiered movies to curriculum-linked projects in schools. As a hub partner in the British Film Institute (BFI) Film Academy Network, YFA is at the forefront of discovering and nurturing the UK’s top emerging talent.

Through this collaboration, we’ll be providing YFA’s students with access to our extensive music library, enriching their creative projects while teaching them the importance of ethical music usage and industry practices. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Manager at the BPI. In her role Hailey sits on both the UK Music Diversity Taskforce and Creative UK Diversity Members Forum. Outside of her work at the BPI, Hailey also works as a violinist and is elected to the Musician’s Union Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee and TUC Women’s Committee. Hailey is a proud trustee of AIMS (Association for Improvements in the Maternity Services).

Panellists for the Navigating Inclusion in The Music Sync Industry: María Ángel 🇨🇴🎛

María Cecilia Ayalde Ángel (or just María Ángel, to keep it short!), a musician and sound engineer originally from the lively city of Bogotá, Colombia, has been living in the UK for the past five years. First coming to the country as a Masters student, she has successfully transitioned into the music sync and publishing industry, where she feels at home.

Passionate about Latin culture and music, Maria aims to share Latin sounds with new audiences in the UK and Europe. As a Latinx, woman, immigrant, and member of the LGBTQ+ community, she is dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusion in the industry. Raised by her mother and grandmother, Maria learned the values of compassion, love, honesty, and generosity, which guide her commitment to making a positive impact through her work.

She graduated with a BA in Music and Sound Engineering from the Pontifical Xaverian University in 2019 and completed a Live Sound internship in Vienna, Austria, working at the largest open-air opera, Oper Im Steinbruch. Following this experience, she moved to the UK to pursue a master's in Cultural and Creative Industries at the University of Sussex (2020).

Currently, Maria works in diverse areas within the music industry. Her main role is Operations and Partnerships Manager at MediaTracks where she is responsible for devising strategies, partnerships, and activities to further diversify the production music industry in the UK. Additionally, María also works as a sound engineer in the areas of live sound, mixing and mastering.

Panellists for the Navigating Inclusion in The Music Sync Industry: Toby Corton 🏳️‍🌈🎤

To quote BBC6 Music's Tom Robinson, Toby is a 'charismatic q***r cockney creative' currently based in East London. His music has been described by Earmilk as “British soul, held together by a modern indie overtone”.

Making music since 2017, his creative talents have led him to photograph the likes of RuPaul's Drag Race UK Queens Bimini and Black Peppa, as well as London Trans Pride Founder Lucia Blayke and one of London’s hottest new soulstresses Sophie Faith. With music as the linchpin of Toby’s creativity, a storyteller at his core, his creative expression spills out into mediums beyond music, with him not only producing work for his own projects but also directing and producing for other artists.

Toby’s supporters include the likes of Dazed, Wonderland, NOTION, The Great Escape Festival, Clash Magazine, Earmilk and GX Magazine, as well as BBC 6Music’, BBC Introducing London and Essex. Toby has already racked up over 500,000 views for his COLORS show and he has also performed on the mainstages of both London and Birmingham Pride. The talented singer-songwriter is now working with a full live band, playing to sold-out audiences for headline shows at Servant Jazz Quarters, The Windmill (Brixton) and The Roundhouse, for Roundhouse Rising Present as part of the music group, State Is Flow.

Toby Corton has also been singled out as a ‘q***r community leader’ by Brick Lane Jazz Festival (Timeout’s ‘Festival Of The Year 2023’) off the back of co-founding Sounds Q***r. His work with the live music platform champions diverse voices and sounds from the LGBTQIA+ community, whilst providing a safe space for audiences within it, which has led him to host and lead programming new music at Mighty Hoopla, as well as be a supported artist and creative entrepreneur by Rich Mix.

2024 will see Toby Corton continue to come into his own with more exciting new music, watch this q***r space 🌈

Panellists for the Navigating Inclusion in The Music Sync Industry: Col Goudie BFE (They/Them) 🏳️‍⚧️🎞

Col Goudie is a graduate of Bournemouth Film School and a multi-award-winning film editor.

With a career spanning 42 years, Col has worked on numerous notable features including Argylle, Tetris, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the Roald Dahl biopic To Olivia, the cult sci-fi movie Monsters, Alan Moore’s The Show, and the feature musical comedy documentary Funny You Never Knew.

In television, Col's highlights include the BAFTA award-winning Between the Lines and the RTS Best Drama Editor award for Holy Cross. Col's work on TV musicals includes the feature-length Stephen Sondheim's Follies in Concert: Four Days in New York and the three-part TV musical comedy Ain’t Misbehavin’. Additionally, Col edited all the pop promos for the BMG, RCA records video album Joking Apart, which won Best Pop Promo of the Year.

Col has also edited numerous award-winning shorts such as Incompatible, It’s Snowing Outside, and the multi-award-winning sci-fi short Deus Otiosus - The Idle God.

As a director, Col helmed the feature documentary It’s Only a Movie for God’s Sake for Columbia TriStar and co-produced the sci-fi short Cognition, the most award-winning live-action short film of all time.

Col has lectured extensively at prestigious institutions including BAFTA, BFI, NFTS, and NTFS, as well as internationally in New Zealand and the USA. Currently, Col is editing and co-producing a project for award-winning director Ben Uttley.

In 2023 they were invited to join the board of governors at the BFE (British Film Editors) where they are the head of Diversity, Equality and Inclusion.

Col has been working openly as a non-binary editor since 2019 and was previously known as Colin Goudie.

Next up in our is Gareth Cousins, with his album Cinematic Momentum 🏎🎞

Over his 35-year career, award-winning British mixer, producer and composer Gareth Cousins has been a part of some of the most groundbreaking film music in recent history, including scores for such blockbuster titles as Baby Driver (2017), Su***de Squad (2016), Last Night In Soho (2021), Our Planet (2019) and Notting Hill (1999).

Beginning his career at the legendary Abbey Road Studios, he has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the music industry, including Phil Collins, Elvis Costello, Sting and the multi-platinum classical crossover quartet, Bond.

Check out Cinematic Momentum, an album that features dramatic orchestral hybrids to action infused musical fusion, each track pulsing with determination and urgency.

Celebrating a Century of Music: MCPS 100th Anniversary Dinner 🎶✨

Last night, I had the privilege of representing MediaTracks at the MPA/MCPS 100th Anniversary Dinner at the iconic Raffles Hotel in London. It was an evening that celebrated a century of achievements in the music publishing industry with elegance, camaraderie, and outstanding entertainment. What an incredible journey the MCPS has been on over the past hundred years! 🎉

I was fortunate to be seated next to some remarkable figures in the industry: Tommy Pearson, the former BBC Radio 3 broadcaster and current Artistic Director of the London Soundtrack Festival, John Altman, a true legend in film music, and Ian Dale, a fellow production music library owner. 🎤🎬📀

The entertainment for the night was spectacular, with the highlight for many being the performance by Voces 8! 🎶

It was an honour to celebrate 100 years of musical excellence and innovation and to look forward to what the future holds for our industry. Here’s to another century of great music! 🥂🎵

Check out 'Atmospheric Electronica', the newest album of our MT Apprentice Owen Francis 💡

Owen Francis (he/him) is a British producer known for his electronic music, particularly Organic House, which incorporates sampled world music instruments. Owen's passion for music ignited during his teenage years, with the guitar serving as his initial entry point.

'Atmospheric Electronica' is an album defined by sparse, minimal dark tension beds, pulsating atmospheres, and dreamy, ambient guitar synths. Floating and wavy downtempo electronica, along with steady kick drums and sombre atmospheres, craft a unique soundscape of relaxed and soft electronica.

Oscar Simons (he/him) describes his work as good, fun, and honest, with a focus on melody and collaboration. He believes in letting the best idea prevail and leaving egos at the door. Oscar's interest in music started at a young age, and he discovered his passion for music production while studying at Newcastle University.

Oscar's first album with MediaTracks, Sonic Vistas, is a compilation of slower, deep, sparse and ethereal electronic music. Big bass, big drums and reverberant guitars/pianos make a combination of tracks for crimes and thrillers as well as more blissed out electronic pieces.

We are SO proud of all the attendees of our most recent Production Music Writing Camp for Women and People of Marginalised Genders, held last week in Wakefield.

Throughout 3 exciting and busy days the 14 attendees learnt about the business of production music, royalties, and the specifics of writing for film/TV. These talented artists then split into 4 groups and tackled real industry briefs, resulting in a fantastic compilation of tracks which we CANNOT wait to release 👀
