We are really excited to share that we have partnered up with ScreenSkills to deliver a one-of-a-kind workshop on Music Licensing 101!

📝 Music Licensing 101 is a one-hour workshop by MediaTracks, designed for those working in unscripted TV to provide a foundational understanding of music licensing. It covers key concepts such as types of music rights (composition, sound recording, sync, reproduction, and distribution), sourcing music (commercial, bespoke, and production music), licensing processes, and the difference between royalty-free and production music libraries.

The session also highlights MediaTracks’ services, including free music supervision, and concludes with insights into equality, diversity, and inclusion in the sync music industry.

👤 Who it's for: Editors, producers, music supervisors - anyone working in unscripted TV interested in understanding how to face the challenges involved in licensing music.

Check out Electric Soul, the genre fusion album from MT composer David Fraser ⚡️

David Fraser (they/them) is a non-binary multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and producer. Known for their powerful lyricism and genre-bending sound, David channels a vibrant mix of edgy anthems, upbeat dance hits, and soulful ballads on Electric Soul. Each track combines funky grooves, heartfelt lyrics, and celebratory beats, creating an evocative experience that’s as liberating as it is electrifying.

🎃 Halloween Shoutout: Our Spookiest Placement Yet! 👻

As we gear up for Halloween, we’re thrilled to highlight one of our eeriest placements to date: The First Omen!

Our tracks Aver Verum, Locus Iste, and Passion Chorale, performed by the renowned London Voices choir and conducted by Ben Parry, were featured in 20th Century Studios supernatural horror film, The First Omen—a chilling prequel to The Omen series.

The haunting choir pieces added the perfect atmosphere of suspense and dread to this gripping tale of dark conspiracies and the rise of the Antichrist. 😱

This vibrant festival of Welsh culture, music, and the arts took place in Cardiff, featuring a diverse array of Welsh talent that beautifully blends traditional and contemporary sounds. Media and Events Group coverage of Tafwyl brought the festival to a wider audience, offering high-quality footage of live performances, insightful artist interviews, and behind-the-scenes glimpses that highlight its inclusive, community-driven spirit.

Composer Spotlight on Mared Williams & Lewys Wyn 💡

Both featured in our Welsh Series 01, (which returns from October 28-30th)! We can't wait to hear what they create this time.

✨ Mared Williams: A bilingual powerhouse in Welsh and English, Mared has performed in stages like the West End (Les Misérables) and Britain's Got Talent, where her vocals wowed Simon Cowell. From musical theatre to concert performances at the Royal Albert Hall, Mared’s talent knows no bounds.

✨ Lewys Wyn: Known as Sywel Nyw, Lewys is an award-winning musician and producer. His latest album ‘Deuddeg’ won Welsh Album of the Year in 2022, and he’s collaborated with major artists worldwide. Lewys excels in innovative, boundary-pushing music, having composed for stage, TV, and even the opening show of the Eisteddfod.

We’re delighted to share that MediaTracks is partnering with Young Film Academy, the UK’s leading provider of filmmaking courses and programmes for young people aged 6-19.

Based in London, YFA helps over 15,000 young filmmakers each year create their first digital films, from West End-premiered movies to curriculum-linked projects in schools. As a hub partner in the British Film Institute (BFI) Film Academy Network, YFA is at the forefront of discovering and nurturing the UK’s top emerging talent.

Through this collaboration, we’ll be providing YFA’s students with access to our extensive music library, enriching their creative projects while teaching them the importance of ethical music usage and industry practices. We’re excited to support and inspire the next generation of filmmakers, empowering them with the resources and knowledge they need to succeed.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Manager at the BPI. In her role Hailey sits on both the UK Music Diversity Taskforce and Creative UK Diversity Members Forum. Outside of her work at the BPI, Hailey also works as a violinist and is elected to the Musician’s Union Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee and TUC Women’s Committee. Hailey is a proud trustee of AIMS (Association for Improvements in the Maternity Services).

Panellists for the Navigating Inclusion in The Music Sync Industry: María Ángel 🇨🇴🎛

María Cecilia Ayalde Ángel (or just María Ángel, to keep it short!), a musician and sound engineer originally from the lively city of Bogotá, Colombia, has been living in the UK for the past five years. First coming to the country as a Masters student, she has successfully transitioned into the music sync and publishing industry, where she feels at home.

Passionate about Latin culture and music, Maria aims to share Latin sounds with new audiences in the UK and Europe. As a Latinx, woman, immigrant, and member of the LGBTQ+ community, she is dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusion in the industry. Raised by her mother and grandmother, Maria learned the values of compassion, love, honesty, and generosity, which guide her commitment to making a positive impact through her work.

She graduated with a BA in Music and Sound Engineering from the Pontifical Xaverian University in 2019 and completed a Live Sound internship in Vienna, Austria, working at the largest open-air opera, Oper Im Steinbruch. Following this experience, she moved to the UK to pursue a master's in Cultural and Creative Industries at the University of Sussex (2020).

Currently, Maria works in diverse areas within the music industry. Her main role is Operations and Partnerships Manager at MediaTracks where she is responsible for devising strategies, partnerships, and activities to further diversify the production music industry in the UK. Additionally, María also works as a sound engineer in the areas of live sound, mixing and mastering.

Panellists for the Navigating Inclusion in The Music Sync Industry: Toby Corton 🏳️‍🌈🎤

To quote BBC6 Music's Tom Robinson, Toby is a 'charismatic q***r cockney creative' currently based in East London. His music has been described by Earmilk as “British soul, held together by a modern indie overtone”.

Making music since 2017, his creative talents have led him to photograph the likes of RuPaul's Drag Race UK Queens Bimini and Black Peppa, as well as London Trans Pride Founder Lucia Blayke and one of London’s hottest new soulstresses Sophie Faith. With music as the linchpin of Toby’s creativity, a storyteller at his core, his creative expression spills out into mediums beyond music, with him not only producing work for his own projects but also directing and producing for other artists.

Toby’s supporters include the likes of Dazed, Wonderland, NOTION, The Great Escape Festival, Clash Magazine, Earmilk and GX Magazine, as well as BBC 6Music’, BBC Introducing London and Essex. Toby has already racked up over 500,000 views for his COLORS show and he has also performed on the mainstages of both London and Birmingham Pride. The talented singer-songwriter is now working with a full live band, playing to sold-out audiences for headline shows at Servant Jazz Quarters, The Windmill (Brixton) and The Roundhouse, for Roundhouse Rising Present as part of the music group, State Is Flow.

Toby Corton has also been singled out as a ‘q***r community leader’ by Brick Lane Jazz Festival (Timeout’s ‘Festival Of The Year 2023’) off the back of co-founding Sounds Q***r. His work with the live music platform champions diverse voices and sounds from the LGBTQIA+ community, whilst providing a safe space for audiences within it, which has led him to host and lead programming new music at Mighty Hoopla, as well as be a supported artist and creative entrepreneur by Rich Mix.

2024 will see Toby Corton continue to come into his own with more exciting new music, watch this q***r space 🌈
