🚀 10 Years Ago, I Took a Risk… and It Changed Everything.

About 10 years ago, I made a bold decision — to leave behind a lucrative consultancy role with the Nigerian Air Force and return home to Jos, my hometown. The very city that shaped me, inspired me, and gave me everything.

I still remember sharing this decision with someone very close to me, Danja Dafwam Yaks (for those of you who do not know how far we have come with Danja). Out of genuine concern, he said to me:

"Daser, I want you to come back to Jos, but I’m worried. A lot of ICT companies are closing down and relocating from Jos. What are you coming to do differently? Are you sure about this?"

I honestly can’t recall what I told him that day (Yakubu can share that in the comments 😄), but one thing I knew for sure — I was ready to take the risk.

Not long after returning to Jos, I wanted to test if the city was ready for a tech conversation. So, in 2015, I organized the first-ever hackathon by a private individual in Jos — what would later be known as HackJos.

We gathered young, passionate minds from different places, lodged them in Fajib Hotel, and for 3 to 4 days, we lived, thought, and built together. The idea was simple:

👉 Bring young people together.
👉 Challenge them to identify local problems.
👉 Use technology to solve them.

At the end of those intense days, teams pitched their ideas to a panel of judges.
That moment sparked something special — the birth of a tech movement in Plateau State.

Many of those early participants became the first generation of developers at nHub — the heroes of tech in our region. And just six months later, nHub — the first innovation hub in Northern Nigeria — was born.

HackJos soon became an annual event, attracting participants from across Nigeria. We ran it successfully for several years until the world paused during the COVID period.

Today, I’m proud to announce that HackJos is back! 🎉

The 2025 edition comes with the theme:

🔥 “Igniting MSME Growth Through Innovation.”

This year, we’re challenging participants to build meaningful Minimum Viable Products (MVPs) that demonstrate innovation, usability, and scalability within selected thematic areas.

Starting today, about 24 developers will gather for 3 days of creativity, collaboration, and co-creation — all dedicated to solving real-world problems that impact businesses and communities.

Join me this Wednesday, November 12th, at Fox Hotel, Jos, by 9:00 AM, as our teams take the stage to present their groundbreaking solutions — the outcome of three days of innovation, teamwork, and problem-solving!

If you’d love to witness this story continue — a story that started with faith, sacrifice, and vision — join me.

Special appreciation to our amazing partners, especially GIZ, for playing a platinum role in making this year’s event possible — and to all our sponsors and supporters who keep the dream alive.

HackJos is not just an event — it’s a legacy.

And this year, the fire burns again. 🔥

I want to sincerely appreciate the outpouring of love - the phone calls, messages, and emails from well-wishers across the world. I missed some calls due to the sheer number coming in, and I apologize for that. To those whose messages I couldn’t respond to, please understand — the volume was simply overwhelming.

To everyone who celebrated in my absence in Jos, those who visited orphanages in commemoration of my day, those who joined me in Abuja for the celebration, those who sponsored the celebration and those who even composed and rendered special songs in my honour - I say a heartfelt thank you.

My special appreciation goes to Distinguished Senator Simon Bako Lalong, Kefiano, Isaac Balami, the APC National Party Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda for his prayers, the entire staff of the Digital Bridge Institute, and the Governors, Senators, and Honourable Members of the House of Representatives who not only called but also took time to meet and personally wish me a happy birthday.

To the wonderful people of Plateau State, my family and well wishers all over the world, thank you for your love, support, and prayers - you made me feel truly celebrated.

Above all, I give thanks to God Almighty for preserving my life and sustaining me with His grace.

You all made 42 feel like a vibrant 24! 🎉

David Daser: A Restless Reformer Driving Digital Transformation at DBI

Birthday Tribute: October 30th

When President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Daser David Daser as Chief Executive Officer of the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) on August 21, 2024, it was not just another administrative posting; it was a strategic decision grounded in the Renewed Hope Agenda and the President’s enduring belief in the power of the Nigerian youth.

President Tinubu has consistently maintained that over 60% of Nigeria’s population consists of young, vibrant, and innovative minds, and that the future of national development must be built upon their energy, intellect, and creativity. In Daser, the President saw a reflection of that youthful dynamism, one of the bright, homegrown talents from Nigeria’s technology ecosystem, possessing both the competence and courage to deliver on the nation’s digital transformation mandate.

Since assuming office, David Daser has justified that confidence with uncommon vigour and visible results. Barely a year into his stewardship, he has distinguished himself as one of the most reform-minded leaders in the digital development space. His restless energy, political dexterity, and administrative precision have repositioned DBI from a modest training institute into a national powerhouse for digital innovation, youth empowerment, and institutional rebirth.

A man of political mettle and administrative depth, Daser embodies the spirit of the Renewed Hope Agenda, a philosophy that transforms ideas into action and aspirations into achievements. He understands that leadership is not about occupying office but about creating sustainable impact, and he has set a strong example through his hands-on reforms across DBI’s campuses nationwide.

Under his watch, DBI has witnessed a silent yet profound revolution. Internal structures have been strengthened, staff morale reinvigorated, and the Institute’s training programmes modernised to reflect emerging trends in digital literacy, cybersecurity, fintech, artificial intelligence, and ICT policy innovation. Through his forward-thinking leadership, DBI has renewed collaborations with government institutions, regulatory agencies, and private sector players, positioning itself as a vital engine for Nigeria’s digital economy.

At the heart of his leadership lies a passionate conviction: Nigeria’s destiny rests on her youth. True to that belief, Daser has made youth empowerment through digital literacy a cornerstone of DBI’s operations. His initiatives have opened new learning pathways and created opportunities for thousands of young Nigerians to acquire critical 21st-century skills needed to thrive in the global digital economy.

His political sensitivity and pragmatic approach have also made him an asset to the Tinubu administration’s governance vision. Daser understands that technology is not an end in itself but a tool for economic inclusion and national renewal, ideals that perfectly mirror President Tinubu’s long-standing commitment to empowering young Nigerians and building a future anchored on innovation and competence.

Colleagues and stakeholders describe David Daser as a leader who listens, learns, and leads with conviction. His humility, strategic insight, and unrelenting work ethic continue to inspire both staff and students of DBI, as well as the wider ICT community across the nation.

In tangible terms, his leadership has produced measurable results. Within a year, DBI has recorded a significant increase in digital skills training across its campuses, with new partnerships established with local and international bodies to expand access to ICT education. The Institute has also embarked on campus revitalisation projects, improved digital infrastructure, and introduced innovation labs and e-learning platforms designed to enhance the quality and reach of its programmes.

Through these efforts, David Daser has not only restored DBI’s relevance but also placed it firmly at the centre of Nigeria’s digital transformation journey. His leadership reflects a new generation of public sector excellence, youthful, focused, and passionately driven to deliver results.

As he marks his birthday on October 30th, we celebrate not just a man, but a movement, a story of vision meeting opportunity, and of youthful leadership redefining institutional legacy.

Happy Birthday, David Daser, a symbol of youthful excellence, a visionary reformer, and a driving force in Nigeria’s digital renaissance.

I am 42!!!

Today, I stand as a living testimony of God’s mercy and faithfulness. At 42, His grace has carried me through seasons of joy and pain, strength and weakness. I am not perfect — yet He never stopped believing in me. When I stumbled, He didn’t just keep me from falling; He lifted me, restored me, and set my feet back on solid ground.

He has given me new songs, new visions, and new reasons to be thankful. Every scar tells a story of His redemption, every victory a reminder of His unwavering love.

Here’s to another year of purpose, grace, and becoming all that God has destined me to be.

And to the quiet strength that keeps me standing — even when no one sees the storm.

Last Sunday at Steffans, Jos, I had the honour of speaking at the 2025 Bit Jepsual Pan/Duan Pan Food Carnival, organized by the Pan Youth Association, Jos Chapter - a vibrant celebration of food, music, and heritage.

I spoke on the theme "Preserving Pan Culture in a Globalized World", and started with our age-old joke - that we, the Mupun people, somehow fell into Pankshin by mistake and should actually be part of Qua’anpan North. But as I told them, if that were true, maybe the Mupun have preserved their culture so well that they sent me as a "cultural envoy" to give the Pan people a small expo on preservation. 😄

Beyond the laughter, I reminded us that globalization and technology, while opening great opportunities, have also made it harder to hold on to our roots. Yet, these same tools can help us preserve them - through AI models for Pan language, digital archives of our stories, and even a Pan Cultural Village in the metaverse to showcase our beauty to the world.

The future of culture is digital - and the Pan people must not be left behind.

Let’s tell our own story, in our own voice.

Last Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending and representing His Excellency, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the APC National, and Rt. Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, Member Representing PKK, at the Youth Summit/Fundraising for the establishment of an office, organized by the leadership of the Plateau Youth Council, Pankshin LGA.

During the event, I joined other distinguished panelists to share my thoughts and insights on the theme: Career Development and Entrepreneurship Amongst Pankshin Youth; Pathways to Success.

In my speech, I extended the goodwill message of the APC National Chairman, who was the Special Guest of Honour, as well as that of Rt. Hon. Gagdi and myself. Both Prof. Nentawe and Rt. Hon. Gagdi each donated the sum of ₦1,000,000 (One Million Naira) in support of the Plateau Youth Council’s vision and initiatives.

We were also recognized with awards for our contributions to the growth and development of Pankshin Youth and the Pankshin LGA. I re-echoed our shared commitment towards supporting the youth at all levels and commended the leadership of the Youth Council and the Planning Committee for putting the event together—with the hope that engagements like this will continue to widen the horizon of young people to thrive and achieve success.
