In January 2019, I shared this story on Facebook. Today, I feel compelled to revisit it and share it again with a broader audience, as its lessons remain timeless and relevant.

After completing my NYSC in 2009, I got an interview call from a tech company in Abuja. Borrowing a suit - probably from McMancha Chris, though I can't fully recall - I walked into that interview looking like an overworked lawyer yet to win his first case.

The interview room was intimidating. I saw several elegantly dressed ladies, and for a moment, I wondered if I'd walked into the wrong place. Were they hiring a secretary or typist? I sat down nervously as two well-dressed men reviewed my CV in silence.

Finally, they asked just one question: "How much do you expect us to pay you?"

Without hesitation, I said 400k.

They laughed out loud, and I instantly realized their combined salaries probably didnā€™t add up to what I was asking for. One of the ladies gave me the polite but dismissive line:

"Thank you, Mr. Daser. Weā€™ll get back to you."

As I walked out, a security guard came running after me.
ā€œThe CEO just got back from Texas and wants to meet you,ā€ he said.

Back in the office, the CEO made me an offer: 300k per month. I stood firm, saying it was 400k or nothing. He appreciated my confidence and promised to reach out via email.

Three weeks later, I got their reply:
"We are sorry to inform you that you were not qualified for the job."

I laughed at the irony - just months earlier, an oil company had rejected me for being overqualified.

But life has its twists. Not long after, I secured a remote job with a Silicon Valley company paying me three times what I had demanded from the tech firm.

Then, six months later, the same Abuja company reached out again.
They were now offering me the 400k Iā€™d asked for and asked to resume work immediately.

My response?
I politely declined, informing them my worth had since tripled.

Years later, the CEO and I became friends, and we often laughed about that chapter in my life.

The Lesson: Build Value

This isnā€™t a story to glorify rejecting job offers. Itā€™s a lesson on value. Back then, I was brash, but I was also prepared. I invested in myself. When opportunities didn't work out, I didnā€™t sulk - I upskilled.

Unemployment, for many, is a matter of perspective. Opportunities are abundant, but they require preparation. If youā€™re out of work, donā€™t just wait for jobs to come to you. Research high-demand skills, learn them online, volunteer, and practice relentlessly.

Just recently, someone bombarded me with calls and messages, pleading for help securing a job in Abuja. I agreed to assist and asked for his CV. What I got was a poorly scanned, graphic, single-page document with no meaningful updates since 2020. No certifications, no skill development - just stagnation. It took him two days to re-send it in PDF format. Needless to say, his lack of initiative made it hard for anyone to help.

Take Charge of Your Growth

In 2025, opportunities are even more accessible. Institutions like the Digital Bridge Institute are releasing 400+ courses and digital platforms nationwide. With learning centers across Nigeria, thereā€™s no excuse for complacency.

Be bold. Invest in yourself. Build an aura of value that makes you indispensable. The world doesnā€™t owe you anything, but you owe it to yourself to be ready for every opportunity that comes your way.

ā€œWhen life tests you, look it in the eye and say, ā€˜I have so much to offer.ā€™ā€

Sometimes, I wonder why failure and success seem to be so deeply intertwined. Why canā€™t life simply be all good, without the inevitable dark moments? A few years ago, I read a book by Philip Yancey titled Where Is God When It Hurts? That book shifted my perspective, teaching me to see pain and suffering as gifts rather than burdens.

Over time, I have rewired my mindset to view pain as an opportunity to grow, even as I celebrate moments of success. But how did I get there? During my thanksgiving service, I shared how I no longer have fears for failure. Someone followed me after the service to ask why I said that. Life had taught me that when good things happen in rapid succession, it often signals a moment to pause and reflect, because challenges might be lurking around the corner.

Between 2019 and 2020, everything in my life seemed to align perfectly. My business flourished - everything I touched turned to gold. My international career was taking off, and yet I was overcome by fear. I kept wondering: What could go wrong? Life had conditioned me to believe that when it keeps handing you lemonade, it might be preparing to toss you some lemons. I braced myself, unsure of what was coming. Then it hit - I lost my dad, the most important figure in my life. It felt as though I had lost not just him, but my sense of balance and my Midas touch.

A similar pattern played out between 2013 and 2015. After rejecting several high-paying job offers to start my business, everything seemed to spiral downward. I was filled with regret and doubt, questioning every decision I had made. Those years were marked by pain and uncertainty. But then, a breakthrough came - I won a grant that helped me establish nHub, a venture that went on to transform lives and take my journey to the next level.

These experiences taught me an invaluable lesson: every moment of success is a time to reflect, and every failure is an opportunity to grow. Pain and suffering are integral to life - they prepare us for the good things to come. Rather than resisting them, we should embrace them. Similarly, when success comes in abundance, let it remind you to tread carefully and manage it wisely, as challenges may lie ahead.

Pain often feels like an affront to our sense of fairness - Jesus understood this too. His miracles of healing were born from his empathy for human suffering. In Gethsemane, he didnā€™t rejoice in the prospect of suffering; instead, he desperately sought escape. Yet, he willingly endured it in pursuit of a higher purpose, trusting the Father to bring good out of even the darkest moments.

For the record, Iā€™m not a pastor - just a student of life. But if thereā€™s one thing life has taught me, itā€™s this: pain and success are two sides of the same coin, and both are essential to growth. Embrace them, learn from them, and let them shape you.

Dear Plateau Youths,

2025 is our year of gloryā€”our time to rise and make our mark both nationally and globally. Itā€™s a year for breaking barriers, rewriting stories, and achieving greatness.

My message to you is simple: in 2025, "Be bold and audacious." The greatness you seek is already within youā€”waiting to be unleashed. All it takes is the courage to step out and take action.

But let us remember this: the struggle of life can only be won when we stand together. This year, letā€™s strive to support each other instead of antagonizing one another. Together, we can elevate the Plateau agenda and showcase the strength of our unity to the world.

Dare to dream, dare to act, and dare to conquer. The world is watching, and we are ready to shine. Let's embrace peace and promote our diversity then the economy will be ours.

Letā€™s make 2025 unforgettable.

Yesterday marked my thanksgiving service, a moment to appreciate God for His incredible blessings in my life. I am deeply grateful for His protection, the gift of a loving family, incredible mentors, supportive friends, and, above all, the honor of being recognized by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu , to serve as the President/CEO of the Digital Bridge Institute.

The turnout was overwhelming, and the entire Mupun Nation came together in a remarkable show of unity and gratitude.

I extend my heartfelt appreciation to everyone who attended the service, especially the former Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Distinguished Sen. Simon Bako Lalong (my father figure), and the Paramount Ruler of the Mupun Chiefdom, His Royal Highness Da Yusuf Walle Fwangbring, who graced the occasion with members of the Mupun Traditional Council.

A special thank you also goes to all dignitaries, both past and present government officials, and well-wishers who took the time to join us in celebrating this momentous occasion.

I had the honor of being a special guest at the Abuja City Journal Essay Competition Grand Finale - a remarkable platform dedicated to nurturing innovation, inspiring future leaders, and driving national transformation.

It was a privilege to share the event with distinguished figures such as Mrs. Ireti Borisade, wife of the late Education Minister; Prof. Babalola Borisade, wife of the former Senator for Ekiti Central; and Sen. Olufemi Kila, among others.

I also had the opportunity to engage with representatives from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (Pi-CNG) - Collins Omokaro, Special Adviser on Communication and Advocacy to Zaccheus Adedeji, Chairman of FIRS, and Tosin Coker, Head of Commercial at Pi-CNG, respectively. They both emphasized the importance of adopting CNG for sustainable energy development.

A special applause to Mr. Foluso Ojo, the event convener and publisher of ACJ, for organizing such an impactful program.

Today, the Digital Bridge Institute paid a courtesy visit to the Office of the National Security Adviser. I had the honor of being received by the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu and we had engaging discussions on cybersecurity and its critical importance to Nigeriaā€™s digital transformation.

As a training institute, our role is to provide top-notch training and create opportunities for Nigerians to build the skills needed to navigate and secure the digital space. Cybersecurity is not just a technical issue; it is a national concern that affects every sector of our economy and society.

Together, we explored avenues of collaboration to strengthen Nigeria's defenses against cyber threats while ensuring that no one is left behind in our journey towards a secure and inclusive digital future.

Letā€™s keep building a safer, more innovative Nigeria!

šŸ“¢ Exciting Partnership Announcement!

Today, I had the pleasure of hosting a delegation from the Benue Digital Infrastructure Company (BDIC), led by their dynamic Managing Director/CEO, Gbande Terwase.

We explored areas of collaboration and signed an MOU to partner on transformative digital initiatives. While I won't delve into the full details of the MOU, itā€™s clear that Benue State is fortunate to have a visionary leader like Mr. Terwase, whose efforts complement the forward-thinking leadership of the Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia.

This partnership marks a significant step toward driving digital innovation and skills development across the state.

Exciting times ahead for Benue!

Today, I had the pleasure of hosting my brother and friend, Hon. Ziphion Chrysanthus, from Pankshin South. He came earlier to pay a congratulatory visit, and we had an engaging discussion about education and its immense benefits for self-development.

Over the years, Iā€™ve come to deeply respect Hon. Ziphion for his audacity and unwavering support for the people of Plateau State. Despite our diverse party affiliations, weā€™ve remained close friends, united by our commitment to the development of our zone, the Pankshin South in Plateau State.

Collaboration and mutual respect will always drive progress. Letā€™s keep building together!

Guess who stopped by the office today?

This incredible woman right here is my sister - a force of nature with the energy and foresight of ten people combined. She's the joy of our home, the glue that binds us all together.

Never one to relent, Joyce Daser Adams is truly the stronghold of our family and an outstanding engineer.

She flew in all the way from the UK to launch her book on CNG manuals in Abuja, and I couldnā€™t be prouder.

I love my sister so much; she reminds me of our dad in the best ways possible.
