Superloop
Superloop is a network of 10 express bus routes which improves connections and journey times between key outer London town centres and transport hubs.

Unlike conventional bus services, Superloop routes only serve key locations and do not stop at every stop they pass. This means you can get to your destination quicker.

Superloop in numbers
The Outer London loop covers 138 kilometres and adds 6 million bus kilometres to London's road network.

It stops in 23 boroughs and serves 55 bus and rail stations.

In 2023, we rebranded and renumbered 4 express buses. We also added 5 new services at the end of 2023 and the start of 2024.

Service improvements
Superloop stops and shelters have improved branding to stand out. This includes illuminated Superloop shelter toppers, red e-tiles (detailing the route numbers) and Superloop name tags.

We've also added live arrival information to many of our shelters to keep you informed of when your bus will arrive.

All Superloop buses have unique white and red design. We've added the route map to the outside of the vehicles that shows the key stopping locations on each route.

Tulip Siddiq resigns as Treasury minister over alleged Bangladeshi financial links

Siddiq was under pressure over her occupancy of properties linked to her aunt, Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh’s ousted leader.

Tulip Siddiq has resigned as a Treasury minister after accepting the government was being harmed by the furore over her close ties to her aunt, the ousted prime minister of Bangladesh now accused of corruption.

Siddiq, who was the City and anti-corruption minister, stepped aside after an investigation by Laurie Magnus, the adviser on ministerial standards, into her use of properties given to herself and family by allies of the regime of Sheikh Hasina.

She was not deemed by Magnus to have broken any rules over her use of the homes and he found no evidence to suggest that any of Siddiq’s assets were derived from anything other than legitimate means.

The inquiry also looked into her presence at the signing of a 2013 nuclear deal between her aunt and Vladimir Putin in Moscow. The adviser accepted her explanation that she had been there only socially and as a tourist.

However, Magnus also said a lack of records and lapse of time has meant that he had “not been able to obtain comprehensive comfort in relation to all the UK property-related matters referred to in the media”.

The watchdog added that Siddiq could have been more alive to the reputational risks arising from her family’s ties to Bangladesh and suggested the prime minister would want to consider her responsibilities.

After Magnus submitted his conclusions, she resigned on Tuesday saying that she had fully declared all her financial interests and relationships but it was clear that the situation had become a distraction for the government.

It is the second resignation of a senior woman from Starmer’s government over an ethics issue after Louise Haigh quit as transport secretary last year over a conviction for fraud. Haigh had wrongly reported a mobile phone as stolen to police before she was an MP.

Government removes highest number of illegal migrants in 5 years

The government's target to drive removal of foreign criminals and immigration offenders to highest level since 2018 has been smashed, with 16,400 people removed.

This government inherited a broken asylum and immigration system. We are taking swift action to increase enforcement and returns of those with no right to be here.

We will continue our crack down on illegal working and make progress with clearing the asylum backlog. We have now exceeded our pledge to get returns to the highest level in half a decade.

Our priority is to ensure the rules are respected and enforced. As part of the Plan for Change, in 2025 we will go further, introducing new legislation to disrupt criminal smuggling networks and working through the Border Security Command to bring these criminal gangs to justice.

In addition to the returns target, following a crackdown on dodgy car washes, nail bars and construction sites, illegal working visits and action against exploitative employers has soared since the government came into power, with 32% more visits and 29% more arrests compared to the same period last year. Biometric kits and body worn cameras will be rolled out to frontline Immigration Enforcement teams throughout 2025 to boost arrests and prosecutions.

Today’s figures follow 6 months of action to restore order to our immigration system, strengthen border security and disrupt smuggling gangs. Since the election we have established the new Border Security Command, announced ÂŖ150million of game changing investment to fund new technology and hundreds of specialist investigators, and agreed a new anti-smuggling action plan with G7 countries.

As part of the government’s reset of international relations, we’ve boosted the UK’s presence at Europol and struck a landmark deal on border security with Iraq to disrupt the gangs at source.

Asylum caseworker productivity is also up, with asylum interviews increasing tenfold, as plans to speed up decision making, clear the backlog and swiftly remove those whose claims are rejected gain pace.

Looking ahead to this year, the government will also introduce landmark border security legislation to empower law enforcement with the tools they need to dismantle the gangs.

Fears for UK boomer radicalisation on Facebook after Meta drops factcheckers

Experts fear the decision by Meta to drop professional factcheckers from Facebook will exacerbate so-called boomer radicalisation in the UK.

Even before what Keir Starmer described as “far-right riots” in England last summer, alarm bells were ringing amid fears older people were even more susceptible to misinformation and radicalisation than younger “digital natives”.

Suspects were generally older than those charged in the 2011 unrest, according to a Guardian analysis of hundreds of defendants that found that as many as 35% were in their 40s or older.

However, after Mark Zuckerberg announced last week that Meta would replace factcheckers with a crowdsourced system and recommend more political content, there is now new concern about the potential radicalisation risks on Facebook, the social media platform of choice for many older people.

“It’s clearly a retrograde step that comes with all sorts of risks,” said Prof Sara Wilford of De Montfort University, a lead researcher on a pioneering Europe-wide project called Smidge (Social Media Narratives: Addressing Extremism in Middle Age).

“X might be the model for the crowdsourced ‘community notes’ approach that Meta seems to be embracing, instead of professional moderators, but it just won’t work in the same way with Facebook, which very much operates in little silos or closed groups. I’m concerned that, for middle-aged Facebook users who risk being exposed to extremist content, it will be even harder to discern the truth.”

The anti-extremism campaign group Hope not Hate also told the Guardian it feared Zuckerberg’s announcement was a prelude to far-right figures and groups, such as Tommy Robinson and Britain First, being allowed back on to Facebook.
