Blow It Hard originally started in 1997 as a weekly club night presenting live artists at the San Moritz Club in Wardour Street Soho. After the demise of the brand as a club night, founder and main DJ Clive Johnson reinvented Blow It Hard as a record Label & Blow It Hard Records was born as an outlet for raw, stripped back Hammond and Horns mod jazz 7” vinyl releases.
The debut release was 'The Homage EP' by London trio Les Hommes in 1999.
With the next 7” release, The New Master Sounds ‘One Note Brown’ Blow It Hard Records became a major voice in the burgeoning Deep Funk scene. Every 7” release sold out and the label introduced bands such as San Francisco based 'The Nick Rossi Set’, Leeds based 'Evil Eddie & The Super Slinkys’ & London based 'Rick Hudson & The Boogaloo Band’ to the scene. At the same time the label released tracks by legends 'The James Taylor Quartet’ and break out act ’Stoned Soul Picnic’.
Realising the limitations of 7” only releases, Blow It Hard Records started a campaign of album releases, first up was a live album from the musical pyromaniac Hard Bop hero Tommy Chase. At the opposite end of the musical scale the label released their biggest selling album, by a trio of revered Jazz musicians: Billy Cobham, Kenny Baron & Ron Carter. Blow it Hard Records also released the first two albums by Speedometer who became one of the biggest crowd pleasers at their regular sell out appearances at the Camden Jazz Cafe.
Blow It Hard Records paused releases in 2005 but on hearing ‘I like to party’ by C.H.A.S.S.E the label knew it had to come out of retirement in 2020 to release this tune, we could not let this one go by.
