The Church

Times has always been independent of the Church of England hierarchy. The paper was started in the 1860s to campaign for Anglo-Catholic principles, but now aims to provide balanced and fair reporting of events and opinions across the whole range of Anglican affairs. The Church Times runs several events, including an annual clergy Cricket Cup, the Festival of Faith and Literature, and the Festival of Preaching. The Train a Priest (TAP) Fund has raised over £4.6 million to support ordinands and their families since it was established in 1952. Other campaigns include the Green Health Awards and the 21 For 21 interfaith awards. Read the Church Times at www.churchtimes.co.uk, via our app for iPhone/iPad, or in print. The print edition is published every Friday.

Another concern was “data creep”: it would not only be burial records that were scanned, but also every baptism and marriage register, and every monument in the church. This data could be sold on to other parties. “Privatising parochial records, and giving a private company the exclusive right to sell on personal data for profit is wrong,” he told the Synod
